This Attribute reflects the character's ability to use every defensive combat situation to his or her benefit. Each round, the character may make one or more additional defensive or non-combat actions. Additionally, penalties for performing more than one defensive action each round only apply after the extra defences are used. For example, a -2 penalty is applied to the fifth defence for a character with Rank 3 Extra Defences.
So a character with the Deflect flaw would not begin to take penalties until they have used one more time than their Defense Combat Master rank. Or, a character could arrange Alternate Defenses as part of an Array of Powers more than once per round.
Alternatively ranks in DCM can give a character a +1 bonus to a specific type of attack, either melee or ranged. Or a +2 bonus to very specific attack, such as bladed weapons or a particular power or attacks from a certain creature.
