This is a modification of the regular d20 rules system. Your background (race) determines your talent path and the chart below will have the limits and conviction gain at every level listed below. For every 15 character points you spend increases your power level.
Talents and many other special abilities from other classes are available for your character, even if they are not on this site.
Characters may have only 5 BP from Defects, and one Weakness.
POWER LEVEL
Power level is an overall measure of effectiveness and power, primarily
combat ability, but also generally what sort of tasks a character can be
expected to accomplish on a regular basis, assuming the ability to take 10
and take 20 (see Checks Without Rolls, page 11).
Power level is a value set by the Gamemaster for the campaign. It places
certain limits on where and how players can spend points when creating
character es. Power level affects the following things:
All totals below represent the maximum bonus that the given character aspect may have.
• Attack: Your character ’s total attack bonus cannot exceed the campaign’s
power level.
• Defense: Your character ’s total defense bonus cannot exceed the campaign’s
power level.
• Damage Save Difficulty: The saving throw modifier for your character ’s attacks
and powers cannot exceed the what is allowed at the campaign’s power level .
• Toughness Save: Your character ’s total Toughness saving throw modifier
cannot exceed the campaign’s power level current maximum.
• Fortitude, Reflex, and Will Saves: Your character ’s total Fortitude, Reflex,
and Will save modifiers cannot exceed the campaign level +5.
• Skill Rank: A character cannot have more ranks in a skill than the
campaign’s power level +5. So in a PL10 campaign, a player character
cannot have more than 15 ranks in any one skill (10 + 5).
• Ability Scores: Ability scores are limited to a bonus no greater than +5 or -2, before racial adjustments. Characters may increase their ability scores by +1 for 2 Character Points, but they can not increase any ability score beyond +5 this way. Only through Enhanced (ability), or racial adjustments, may they increase an Ability Score beyond the +5 limit.
Free Stuff
Reputation: This is a characters base reputation. A characters total Reputation bonus is limited by their character level.
Action Point: This is a characters base Action Points. Actions points can only be restored by the expenditure of a Plot Point.
Conviction: This is a characters base Conviction. Conviction can be restored by Plot Points, or by doing act that follow the principles of their Virtue.
ATTACK/DEFENSE TRADE-OFFS
Although the campaign’s power level defines certain limits, there is some
flexibility to them. Players can choose to lower one power level limit on a
character to raise another related limit. You can adjust power level limits in the
following ways:
• Attack & Damage Bonus: You can trade-off base attack bonus for the saving
throw Difficulty Class modifier with an attack on a one-to-one basis.
So a PL 10 character could have a +10 attack bonus in order to have a +15
save DC modifier, for example, or a character that has chosen to have a
+15 attack bonus is limited to a +8 save DC modifier. This modification
does not apply to powers that do not require attack rolls; they
remain limited by the campaign’s normal PL limit on save DC modifiers.
• Defense & Toughness: You can trade-off base defense bonus for
Toughness saving throw bonus on a one-to-one basis. So a PL 10 character with a +10 defense bonus could have a +15 Toughness save bonus total.
Conversely a character in the same campaign who has a +13 base defense
bonus is limited to a +12 Toughness save bonus total.
No limit can be reduced to less than 0 in this way, or any one bonus exceed the campaign level by +5, and the GM must
approve all such trade-offs. Attack/defense trade-offs allow for some
variety in combat-related bonuses while maintaining power level balance
among the character es overall.
