Fish Taverna Thalami is one of the restaurants in Almyrida, which is located directly at the sea. We try the potato flavour (potato dumplings stuffed with cheese), dorado (a fish) and smoked salmon salad. The house wine is dry and a bit sour, but good. All the food actually tastes fantastic, so no complaints. The bread is served with an olive tapenade and garlic butter. Our verdict: a 9 out of 10 |

Ammos Café snack bar is located on the beach of Almyrida, a little at the end where the small beach and the rock are (west side). We went there for breakfast. The waiter with a beard was very grumpy. The cappuccino we ordered with our breakfast came with a glass of water, but the coffee was lukewarm and fatty and both thought it was so bad that we only took one sip of it. No fresh bread but toast and the orange juice also wasn't fresh. The mediocre breakfast combined with the bad coffee and the very unfriendly service make us give this one a bad mark. Our verdict: a 5 out of 10 |

The Ammoudara Taverna is located on the beach of Ammoudara. They serve a range of sandwiches, omelettes, soups and other appetizers. The menu features salads and pastas, meat and chicken dishes and oven dishes. There is an extensive menu. The tzatziki was good, with quite some cucumber and garlic. The tuna salad had lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, an onion, olives, peppers, tuna and fresh herbs in it. It looked pretty as well. The fries were crispy (we brought our own mayonnaise in a pot and nobody said anything about it). The lamb chops were served with fries and peas and rice in tomato sauce. The lamb was very tender. The giros dish also came with nice crispy fries, pita bread, sour cream, onion and tomato. It wasn't really giros (sliced from a large piece of meat in the grill) but instead it was a piece of fried pork that was cut into pieces. The tuna pizza was very tasty. The swordfish was served with vegetables and boiled potatoes. Our verdict: an 8,5 out of 10 |

The Faedra Taverna is located on Amoudara Beach. It is situated right next to the Ammoudara Tavern and also looks out over the beach. Here we order a cappuccino. A very nice place to break in your journey. This simple taverna on the west coast of the island of Crete on the route Kissamos - Sfinari - Elafonisi enjoys fantastic views and the owner is very friendly. You can have a drink or order a simple dish. Our verdict: a 9 out of 10 |
Elle Messa Restaurant - Analipsi (n) |
![]() The Ela Messa restaurant is situated on the beach-boulevard of Analipsi. The cappuccino comes with whipped cream instead of milk, and there is no cookie or glass of water to accompany it. It tastes good and strong though and the service is superfriendly. Our verdict: a 7,5 out of 10 |
Poseidon / Tsalos Beach Restaurant - Analipsi (N) |
![]() A restaurant with many names where we have had dinner a lot of times. They probably don't know themselves any more what they are called, but it is a good one! The rosé is served in a nice earhtenware decanter and the wine glasses are beautiful. The girl working there even pours the first rosé into our glasses and she offers to take our picture. The bread is warm from the oven and it is served with tomato tapenade and garlic butter. I order a plate with a bit of everything, the Greek plate: cheap and lots to choose from. It tastes very good. The restaurant turns out to be classy (damast table cloths instead of plastic), with the best of service, and actually it is quite cheap. We have eaten here a lot of times and we never had any complaints. Also nice for a breakfast. Our verdict: a 9 out of 10 |

This taverna is situated right next to the large parking lot in the village of Makrigialos, on the left hand side as you look towards the sea. There is no extensive menu but it is really cheap and delicious. We ordered the fried zucchini, tzatziki, twice the sole fish, a mix fish, chicken fillet and green beans. All this of course accompanied by a carafe of white wine. |

Revans Snack Bar is located directly on the beach of Analipsi. It is a real snack bar, with no complicated recipes, but everything is presented in a nice way, it is not expensive and the service is friendly. It is what you can expect from it. We order a bbq burger and a club sandwich chicken. In the club sandwich no pieces of (fresh) chicken but a chicken burger that came from the freezer. Our verdict: a 7,5 out of 10 |

Coukos Island Cafe Snack Bar Creperie is located on the beach of Analipsi and is also accessible from the coastal road that runs through Analipsi and Makrigialos. We order a savory crepe and a Coucos burger. The crepe contains tomatoes, peppers, olives, salami and spicy cheese. It tastes good. The salami was not my favourite ingredient. The burger is served with chips instead of French fries and that is a shame. Our verdict: a 7,5 out of 10 |

The Diaskari Taverna is situated on the western side of Diaskari beach and can be reached via an exit at the end of Analipsi, which says "Green beach". It is therefore on the east side on the outskirts of Analipsi, between the beaches of Analipsi and the large beach of Lagada. It is set in a beautiful spot on a pretty and quiet beach, and everywhere there are trees and flowers in pots. The owner has made it very cozy and the taverna is also quite popular. We order the grilled sardines, a Greek salad, the fried sargos (small fish that have been stripped of the bone), the tzatziki and half a liter of white wine. The service is very friendly and the food is good. Our verdict: an 8 out of 10 |
H Eisodos Taverna - Argiroupolis |
H Eisodos in Argiroupolis a very good taverna set on the side of the road at the edge of the village. There are several starters, amongst which are many small vegetarian dishes, and there are salads, pizzas, grilled chicken or grilled meat, pitas. It is also very cheap. On the table this time no paper table cloths but real linen. The portions are very large as well. Our salad had lovely fresh herbs in it and the French fries were chrunchy and tasty. Our verdict: an 9+ out of 10 |

The Bali Cafe is situated along the road down if you're on your way to the beaches next to the small harbour of Bali. It is also a bakery, so the expectations were high. They sell pizzas, waffles, sandwiches, club sandwich, sandwiches and breakfasts. We order a cappuccino and a club sandwich. The cappuccino is not served with hot milk, but with whipped cream from an tin. There is no glass of water. The fries are crunchy and taste pretty good but the club sandwich doesn't have much flavour. A little disappointing. Our verdict: a 6,5 out of 10 |
Porto Paradiso Restaurant - Bali |

This restaurant is situated down at the small village beach. It is a restaurant specializing in Italian food (they play nice Greek music though through the speakers). There are different kinds of breakfasts on the menu, a lot of pizzas and pastas, fish dishes, souvlaki, several dishes that are served with French fries and salads. They serve a good strong cappuccino with whipped milk on top. The pizzas are enormous with lots of cheese and not so much tomato sauce. The service is very friendly. The pizzas were too big for us, but luckily they had cardboard boxes so we could take one home (we ordered two). Our verdict: an 8 out of 10 |
Skorpion Café - Bali |

A bar / coffee shop at one of the beaches in Bali. Even though it is very quiet it takes for ever to make us a cup of cappuccino and when it finally gets there it is watery and with whipped cream on top. Best thing about it is te view on the beach with all those French people on it. On a next visit quicker and more friendly service, better coffee, but still the whipped cream, hmmm...not too bad. Our verdict: from a 7 in 2011 to a 7,5 out of 10 in 2013 |

Mamma Mia ... the ice that you can buy here is truly delicious. Taste a piece of heaven in the "Odos Karadi & Dimitri", a side street of the Halidon Street, not far from the church of Agios Nikolaos. It looks beautiful, tastes great and there's lots of choice. Back in the building you can see people making the ice. The ice cream shops in the Netherlands (where I live ;) can learn something from them. Our verdict: a 9 out of 10 |
Samaria Taverna - Chora Sfakion |

We always seem to end up here whenever we are in Chora Sfakion. It is probably the largest taverna in the village and it is situated at the waterfront. We tried several things on several occasions, including the "dakos" (toast with tomatoes and soft cheese), chefs salad and tzatziki (with plenty of garlic). The cappuccino comes with whipped cream instead of hot milk, but it tastes good. No bad remarks about this place. Our verdict: simple and good, friendly people, an 8 out of 10 |

The Kochilas Taverna is located near the Chrisoskalastissa monastery and overlooks the monastery itself. You can see the taverna on your left hand side as you drive from the north to the monastery. Opposite the Kochilas Taverna is the Zefyros and here we had really a very different experience. On the sign in front of the taverna was written in very large letters "boureki". Boureki is a dish with only vegetables in it and it's one of my favorites. That's why we try this Zefyros Taverna. But unfortunately there is no boureki. There is moussaka says the man working here, but moussaka is something quite different: a dish with pork. I do not understand why he brings it up. So we order something else: a tzatziki, peppers, tuna salad and a fish. Old bread is put down on the table to combine with the starters. I must ask for small plates because we have not received those so we can "enjoy" the appetisers. All the time the man working here doesn't say one word and he has got the same expression as "grumpy cat", very unfriendly. It's not often like that thank you. The tuna salad is unimaginative, the tzatziki is like yoghurt with a little garlic, the peppers (from a jar?) are cold and not tasty. The fish is not great. The bill comes without cash register receipt, so you wonder if tax is paid. We get nothing extra (a raki or fruit or something sweet), so no tip. Really crappy tent. Next time we go to the other side of the street again. Our verdict: a 3 out of 10 |

The Dounias Taverna is located on both sides of the road that runs through the village of Drakona. It is a "slow food" restaurant where everything slowly cooks in stone pots on the fire. The dishes are traditional Greek and all the products that are used come from the taverna's own garden or they are local products. Everything is fresh. We had a lunch and tried only vegetarian dishes, although I understand that meat dishes are very good. The sweet pumpkin pie was good, the mixed stuffed vegetables were very salty and the other vegetable dish was not bad. The white wine had not much flavour. The home made bread with olive oil was very hard. The idea is very nice, the people are very nice, the views stunning, but the food we were not really impressed with. Our verdict: a 7 out of 10 |

Porto Rino Pizzeria Restaurant in Elounda has a delivery service and therefore we ordered some food here (and had it delivered to the Elounda Solfes Villa), including a variety of pizzas, fish with fries and a Ceasar Salad. It was really very good, the salad was fantastic and the pizzas were as you want them: with a thin crispy and thin base and very tasteful. Very different from the Greek pizzas that you usually get with a thick bottom and layers of cheese. Completely approved and also very cheap, highly recommended. They are situated in the harbor of Elounda, and we also went there for a dinner in 2016. The food was again fantastic and the service is the best. One of the best restaurants we encountered on the island of Crete. Our verdict: an 9,5 out of 10 |

At a certain moment you will pass Vassilis Taverna on the right hand side, with a parking and a beautiful garden. We order the tzatziki, the Kalitsounia (spicy fried vegetables with a layer of dough around it), the grilled feta cheese and the chicken souvlaki.
