The small village of Kato Episkopi (lower Episkopi) is located in the north of the Lasithi province, just below the town of Sitia. The village can be reached via a junction on the route from Makrigialos to Sitia. Kato Episkopi is a quiet village where most residents live from agriculture. A path leads from the village along a variety of gardens where vegetables are grown and chickens and sheep are kept. Along the narrow streets of this traditional village, the residents have displayed pots with flowers and there are orange and pomegranate trees along the houses. The center of the village is formed by the new church and the square around it. In the village are the remains of an old fort, but don't expect too much, because there is not much left of it.
In Kato Episkopi there is the eleventh century Byzantine church of Agii Apostoli, which once belonged to a bishop. It is now part of a cemetery. A path from te village leads to the church, but there is no clear sign leading from the village to the church (and so we didn't find it). If you drive on from Kato Episkopi to the village of Zou you can see the remains of a Minoan farm at your right hand side just before you enter te village.
