Tzermiado is the name of the largest and liveliest village on the Lassithi
Plateau. The village was founded in the 15th century and it is situated on the slopes of the mountain Selena. Tzermiado is filled with small taverna's and with souvenir shops that sell
mostly handmade carpets and clothes, or ceramics.
Near Tzermiado you can find the Trapeza cave which was inhabited in the Neoliticum and later used as a site for sacred services and burial.
When you leave the village
into the direction of Agios Nikolaos or Neapoli you will run into a lot of
people that are selling honey along the road.
