The village of Chandras (sometimes also called Handras) is a traditional Cretan village on the Ziros plateau in eastern Crete. The village lies at an altitude of 600 meters and overlooks a row of modern windmills (which generate energy). Chandras is 30 kilometer away from the town of Sitia. The village is surrounded by fields of vines, fruit trees and olive groves. In this fertile area much wine and raki is produced. Not far from Chandras are two interesting old Venetian settlements, Etia and Voila.
Chandras is a very quiet village with old stone houses, flowers and fruit trees. There is a fairly large church and a village square with a tavern and a water source. There is a small mini market and a little further down the road there is another tavern (The Lemon Tree) and a Folklore Museum.
