The church of Agia Sofia is situated in the east of Crete, close to Handras and Armeni and also not far away from the historical site of the Venetian town of Etia. The Agia Sophia Church was once one of the most important churches in the east of Crete.
and it used to be quite large. Nowadays all that remains are the ruins of the old walls and the many arches. On the site and "glued" to the old walls they have built a new church.
The date of the church remains a mystery to me (so if you know please tell me) but my guess is that it is from Venetian times, because of the style and the structure of the arches and the stones (plus being so close to Venetian Etia and looking a bit like that).
