The village of Piskokefalo is a fairly large village located in the Lasithi district, in the northeast of the island of Crete, about 3 kilometers from the town of Sitia. It can be reached via a junction on the road from Sitia to Ierapetra in the south. Piskokefalo has slightly less than 1,000 inhabitants and can already being seen from a long distance because of the large yellow church with its huge domes and bell tower that dominates the village. It is called the Agia Anna church and it is situated on a square that offers beautiful views over the sea and the surrounding landscape.
Piskokefalo has all the amenities that you can expect from a larger village in Crete, including a pharmacy and several supermarkets and taverns.
Near the village of Piskokefalo a Minoan villa has been excavated where many artifacts have been unearthed, including some clay dolls. These are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion.
