Achladia is a small village just south of Sitia, which can be reached via the exit at Piskokefalo or from the south via the road from Makrigialos to the north. Three kilometers northeast of Achladia is the excavation of a 270 m2 Minoan villa, with two more smaller houses close to it. The buildings date from 1600-1550 BC.
Achladia is a quiet village with about 250 inhabitants. There are two churches (one at a cemetery and one in the center of the village) and there are a few tavernas.
The church in the center of the village consists of two aisles and it has a bell tower.
Most of the people here live from agriculture.
The inhabitants of Achladia are welcoming and very friendly. Everyone wishes you a good day and we were even given a bottle of self made lemon liqueur when we walked through Achladia to have a look around.
