Lakki is a small, old (13th century) and unspoilt mountain village in the west of Crete. There are about 400 inhabitants. Lakki is situated south of Chania, in between Chania and Omalos, and it can be reached on the Chania - Oasi - Lake Agia - Fournes - Lakki route.
Many people will pass Lakki on their way to the Omalos Plateau and the Samaria Gorge. It is a traditional village where you can make a stop for a coffee or a drink. Omalos is built on the slopes of a hill and it is surrounded by olive groves, orange groves and chesnut trees. Most people in the village live of the land and they raise either stock (goats, sheep, chickens), cultivate olives or oranges, or do both. Narrow roads lead down from the main square (with a beautiful war monument) to the houses that seem to be clinging on to the hill.
Lakki is situated on an altitude of 450 meters and offers great views over the White Mountains and the valleys.
After Lakki the road gets less good and more steep with many hairpins, and the landscape changes from cultivated to natural. There are large pine trees and thick bushes.
