Tylissos is a village 14 km southwest of Iraklion and surrounded by mountains, olive groves and vineyards. You have to get of the new national road at Gazi and head south from there in order to reach it.
In the village of Tylissos there are remains from three late Minoan villas that were destructed in 1450 BC. They were owned by prominent and important people and probably they formed a religieus and economic center.
Many objects have been found in these villas, amongst which statues of gods and three copper kettles (one of them weighing more than 50 kilo). These finds can be seen in the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion.
Finds around these three villas also show that there was probably a reasonably large town built around them, of which they were a part.
