Chiona beach is a beach located in the Lasithi district in the northeast of the island of Crete, two kilometers from the village of Palekastro and near Agathia (distance 1 kilometer). It is a small sandy beach and on the edge of the beach there are two fish taverns where there are also some sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, but there are also some tamarisk trees for those looking for some shade. For the most part of the year the beach is pretty quiet. On the east side of the beach are a few coves where small beaches are hidden. From Chiona you look out on two small islands that lie in front of the coast.
During winter and spring, Chiona beach is also a haven for several migrating birds. Behind the beach is a so-called "wetland" where water remains because it is held by a hill of sand. There is fresh water coming from the ground and through a canal salt water flows in from the sea, resulting in a rich flora and fauna during that period (October to May).
