Agios Georgios is a small and quiet village in eastern Crete (there are several villages with the same name on the island) that is situated a small distance of main road that runs between Makrigialos and Sitia. It is roughly speaking in the middle of this route. Most houses are old, but there are currently several new houses being put down (2011). From Agios Georgios you look out over a green and fertile valley with olive trees and cypresses. Shortly after you enter the village from the south you will see a sign pointing to a fountain and a Minoan villa. We haven't been able to find either of the two.
In order to reach the fountain you had to walk straight ahead, but we didn't see any other signs and we didn't find any fountain. For the Minoan villa you had to turn left right after entering the village and then it would be at 1.8 kilometer distance from the village. The road you have to drive over is narrow and not all too good, but it is paved. After about one kilometer the road stops and turns into a path. There is a sign that says that the villa is 0.5 kilometers away, but if you walk ten paces you come to a fork in the road and suddenly it is 200 meters further away, because now it is a 700 meters walk. We followed the direction of the sign but apart from barking dogs and trees we didn't see anything. The path stops after 200 meters and there's nothing there, no sign or any other indication. There are only olive trees.
