The village of Patelari is situated in the north of Crete, a few kilometers south of the popular tourist resort of Platanias and not far from Vrisses. It's actually almost like a row of houses on either side of the road.
In the village there are several churches, including a very small one, which is located next to a war memorial. In World War II there was this fierce resistance against the German occupation in this village and there are many casualties. Along the village flows a river (which actually looks more like a channel, because it is all straight). On the corner at the curve in the road as it runs through the village you find a tavern where you sit in the shade of the trees and have something to eat or to drink.
