Rules

Use standard Magic: the Gathering rules with the following exceptions:

  • All players start at zero life. A player at zero life is not considered "dead" or "as has lost"; a player at zero life is still in the game.

  • To win, a player must be at twenty or more life, and all opponents must be at zero life.

  • For each point of damage that a player causes, that reduces an opponent below zero, he gains one life. For example if a player is at 0 life and you deal three points of damage to him you will gain 3 life. If the player is at 1 life and you deal 3 points of damage to him you would gain 2 life.

  • You may not play any spells or use abilities that cause you to lose life. Some examples of this are Vampiric Tutor and Necropotence.

Deck Construction

Use standard deck construction rules for this variant.

Sideboard

You can have a 15-card sideboard in Constructed and in Limited the cards you don’t use are your sideboard.

Banned & Restricted List

Banned

Any spell that you may cause a loss of life or deal damage to your self.

When playing this variant it is usually decided what type you will be playing. So if playing Type 1, Type 1.5, Type 2, or Extended Tug of War then, follow that format’s Banned and Restricted List in addition to this list.

Mulligan Rules

Standard “Paris” Mulligan is used for this variant.

Before each game begins, a player may, for any reason, reshuffle and redraw his hand, drawing one less card. This may be repeated as often as the player wishes, until he has no cards left in his hand. After the participant, who plays first, mulligans as often as he likes, the decision of whether to mulligan passes to the other player. Once a player passes the opportunity to mulligan, that player may not change his mind.
