Rules

Standard Magic: the Gathering Rules apply.

Deck Construction

All decks must be constructed of two colors. Each color will be divided into two sides: the King’s side and the Queen’s side. For each side you will have 8 creatures that must meet certain qualifications (see below). They are as follows:

 King's Side

Queen's Side

King

Queen

Bishop Bishop
Knight Knight
Rook Rook
4 Pawns 4 Pawns
King's Wizard Queen's Artifact

Also in the deck you will have 18 Non-Creature Cards and 24+ lands.

Qualifications for each card:

  • Bishop: Must be a non-wall creature with power equal to or greater then its toughness. Must have a power greater then the Knight of its color. (Force of Nature, Skizzik, Drifting Djinn)
  • Knight: Must be a non-wall creature with combined power and toughness equal to 6 or less. The knight must also have one of the following combat abilities: Banding, First Strike, Flanking, Flying, Haste, Protection, Rampage, Shadow, or Trample. It also must have a power greater then the pawn of its color. (Black Knight, Soltari Priest, Shivan Raptor)
  • Pawn: Must have a casting cost of 3 or less. It must also have a combined power and toughness of 3 or less. Power and/or toughness cannot be “inflatable”. It cannot have a tapping ability other than one that provides mana of the King or Queen’s Color only. If the pawn has not special abilities (i.e. just a vanilla creature), then its combined power and toughness can be 4 or less and there is no restriction on casting cost. All pawns for each side must be the same card. (Tundra Wolves, Llanowar Elves, Nightscape Familiar)
  • King’s Wizard: Must be a creature of the King and/or Queen’s color. This is the only gold color creature that you can have in your deck. The wizard must have an ability that requires tapping as part of the activation cost. This creature may never attack or block unless forced to by a spell or ability. The power and toughness may not be greater then 4/4. (Tradewind Rider, Royal Assassin, Goblin Wizard)
  • 18 Non-Creature Cards: These 18 cards must be from the King and/or Queen’s colors. You may not have more then 2 copies of any of these cards.
  • 24+ Lands: All land cards in your deck must produce mana of the color of your King and/or Queen if they produce colored mana. This means that you can play land that produces colorless mana. You may have up to 4 non-basic lands in your deck but only one copy of each. You may also include a Legendary Land. This land does not count toward your 4 non-basic lands but may not be a copy of any of them. You may have any number of basic lands in your deck.

Sideboard

There is no Sideboard for this game variant.

Mulligan Rules

Standard “Paris” Mulligan is used for this variant.

Before each game begins, a player may, for any reason, reshuffle and redraw his hand, drawing one less card. This may be repeated as often as the player wishes, until he has no cards left in his hand. After the participant, who plays first, mulligans as often as he likes, the decision of whether to mulligan passes to the other player. Once a player passes the opportunity to mulligan, that player may not change his mind.
