Rules

Use standard Magic: the Gathering rules with the following exceptions:

  • All players skip their draw phase.

  • When you start the game each player puts into play two savants and one shifter.

  • Savants are 0/1 colorless creatures (note: they do not count as artifacts) that may not be the target of spells or abilities.

  • Shifters are 0/1 colorless creatures that have “Remove a creature in your graveyard from the game or discard a creature card from your hand, ~ becomes a copy of that creature until the end of the turn.”

  • At the end of your turn draw a card for each savant that you have in play.

  • Savants or shifters are immune to sacrifice.  This means if you are forced to sacrifice a creature and all you have in play is two savants and a shifter then you do not have to sacrifice a creature. They are still affected by spells like Wrath of God.

  • Any player may pay 2 life to prevent 1 damage to a savant.

Deck Construction

Use standard deck construction rules for this variant.

 Sideboard

You can have a 15-card sideboard.

Banned & Restricted List

Banned

Any card that allows you to draw a card. (Note: this includes cantrips)

When playing this variant it is usually decided what Type you will be playing. So, if you are playing Type 1, Type 1.5, Type 2, or Extended Shifter Magic then, follow that format’s Banned and Restricted List in addition to this list.

Mulligan Rules

Standard “Paris” Mulligan is used for this variant.

Before each game begins, a player may, for any reason, reshuffle and redraw his hand, drawing one less card. This may be repeated as often as the player wishes, until he has no cards left in his and. After the participant, who plays first, mulligans as often as he likes, the decision of whether to mulligan passes to the other player. Once a player passes the opportunity to mulligan, that player may not change his mind.
