Race Wars Rules Standard
Magic: the Gathering Rules apply. Deck
Construction Each
player will construct a 60 card minimum deck. 50% of the deck must be
creature cards. You need to pick 1-2 races as your deck theme. Creature
types must be divided equally. If you play 1 race in a 60-card deck then
30 cards must be creatures, 2 races then 15 creature from each race. You
can only play up to 2 races. Mixed
creature types can be used of either race. For example Goblin
Legionnaire is a “Goblin Soldier.” It can be used in a
goblin deck or a soldier deck. He does not have to go into an actual
“Goblin and Soldier” deck, if he does, you can count him as either a
goblin or a soldier when adding up the 15/15-race count. “Lords”
are considered “Honorary” (race). For example, Lord
of the Undead is considered an “honorary” zombie, and
thus allowed in the zombie decks. You cannot have a creature outside of
your race that chooses a creature type when it comes into play.
For example Brass
Herald can only be played in a Golem Deck. Artifact Creatures cannot
be used as a race, but you can play some of the artifacts in a normal
deck. For example you can use Draco
in a dragon deck or Wall
of Spears in a wall deck. Non-Creature
token generators must match the decks creature type. For example Call
of the Herd can be used in an elephant deck. Beast
Attack in a beast deck. Goblin
Trenches in either a goblin or soldier deck. These cards DO
NOT count toward your 50% minimum. Sideboard There
is no sideboard for this variant. Banned
& Restricted List Banned All Mercenaries All
Rebels All
Slivers Mercenaries, Rebels, and Sliver are banned because they are too powerful in this variant. You can use them if your tournament organizer approves the use of them. *
Patron
Wizard is only banned in Type 2 because it is too powerful in
this variant. When
playing this variant it is usually decided what Type you will be playing.
So, if you are playing Type 1, Type 1.5, Type 2, or Extended Race Wars
then follow that format’s Banned and Restricted List in addition to
this list. Mulligan Rules Standard
“Paris” Mulligan is used for this variant. Before each game begins, a player may, for any reason, reshuffle and redraw his hand, drawing one less card. This may be repeated as often as the player wishes, until he has no cards left in his hand. After the participant, who plays first, mulligans as often as he likes, the decision of whether to mulligan passes to the other player. Once a player passes the opportunity to mulligan, that player may not change his mind. History I
received this variant from www.grimmoire.com
