Over Extensive Highlander

 Rules

Standard Magic: the Gathering Rules apply.

 Deck Construction

In Highlander and Extensive Highlander Magic you can only have one of any card, other than basic land, in your deck. Over Extensive Highlander is very much like regular Extensive Highlander but the rarities of the cards are a factor. Typically it is played as an extended format, where all cards must come from the current legal Extended environment.

  • Each player must play with at least 3 non-basic land cards from each legal Extended Set. You must include 1 common, 1 uncommon, and 1 rare from each of these sets.

5th Ed., 6th Ed. 7th Ed., Ice Age, Homelands, Alliances, Mirage, Visions, Weatherlight, Tempest, Stronghold, Exodus, Urza’s Saga, Urza’s Legacy, Urza’s Destiny, Mercadian Masques, Nemesis, Prophecy, Invasion, Planeshift, Apocalypse, Odyssey, Torment, and Judgment. This includes cards used for the sideboard.

  • You may play with one of each dual land.

  • You can play more than 3 cards from each set as long as all other criteria are met. The additional cards can be from any set listed above.

  • This format can also be played as a Type 2 format but you should increase the number of cards from each set.

Sideboard

Players may use a 15-card sideboard.

Banned & Restricted List

When playing thisvariant it is usually decided what Type you will be playing. So, if you are playing Type 1, Type 1.5, Type 2, or Extended Highlander then follow that format’s Banned and Restricted List.

Mulligan Rules

Standard “Paris” Mulligan is used for this variant.

Before each game begins, a player may, for any reason, reshuffle and redraw his hand, drawing one less card. This may be repeated as often as the player wishes, until he has no cards left in his hand. After the participant, who plays first, mulligans as often as he likes, the decision of whether to mulligan passes to the other player. Once a player passes the opportunity to mulligan, that player may not change his mind.

History

Highlander started a long time ago with no real “founder”. Extensive Highlander came from 2000 Events Horizons Invitational Formats. Over Extensive Highlander came from a guy with way too much time on his hands…me.
