Gauntlet Rules Each
player must construct three decks. Check with the tournament organizer to
find out what format to use. Once you have your decks build you need to label
each of your decks A, B, and C. Both players then use deck “A” and
play one normal game. The winner of that game keeps the same deck and
notes his life total at the end of the game. The loser of that game uses
deck B to play with next game. The winner of the first game takes all of
his cards (deck, graveyard, in play, and hand) and shuffles them together
and starts a new game against deck B. All cards that were removed from the
game DO NOT get shuffled back into the deck. They are gone for the
remainder of the match. The player who lost the first game starts back at
20 life. The player who won keeps his life total from the first game.
After that game the winner keeps his deck and the loser goes on to his
next deck. First player to beat all 3 of their opponent’s decks win. This may all seem a little confusing so I will explain a sample game: The two players are Bob and Jeff. It has been decided to use Extended decks for this tournament. Bob has the following decks:
Jeff has the following decks:
Bob and Jeff both play one game with their “A” decks. Bob will be using his “Stompy” deck and Jeff will be using “Slivers”. Bob wins the first game. His life total was 8 when he won. Now Jeff uses his deck “B”(Turbo Land) against Bob’s deck “A”(Stompy). Jeff will start off at 20 life and Bob will start off at 8 life. Bob shuffles his cards together and starts a new game against Jeff. During the first game he cast Call of the Herd and used it’s flashback so it is removed from the game and he does not get to shuffle it back into his deck. Bob
wins the second game and his life total was 3 when he won. So Jeff now
uses his deck “C”(Red Burn) against Bob’s deck “A”(Stompy). Jeff
will start off at 20 life and Bob will start off at 3 life. Bob shuffles
his cards together and starts a new game against Jeff. Jeff
wins this next game easily playing his “Red Burn” deck. His life was
at 19 when he won. So now Bob uses his deck “B”(Trix) deck against
Jeff’s deck “C”(Red Burn). Jeff
will start off at 19 life and Bob will start off with 20 life. Jeff
shuffles his cards together and starts a new game against Bob… Deck
Construction Standard Deck Construction Rules apply. Sideboard There is no sideboard for this game variant. Banned & Restricted List When playing this variant it is usually decided what type you will be playing. So, if you are playing Type 1, Type 1.5, Type 2, or Extended Gauntlet then, follow that format’s Banned and Restricted List. Mulligan
Rules Standard “Paris” Mulligan is used for this variant. Before each game begins, a player may, for any reason, reshuffle and redraw his hand, drawing one less card. This may be repeated as often as the player wishes, until he has no cards left in his hand. After the participant, who plays first, mulligans as often as he likes, the decision of whether to mulligan passes to the other player. Once a player passes the opportunity to mulligan, that player may not change his mind.
