Monte Carlo Draft

For this game you will need six 15-card booster packs or its equivalent (90 cards) and two 6-sided dice. It is recommended to play this variant with 2 people.

 Rules

  • Before starting this variant you need to label tags from two to twelve and place them on the table.
  • Open the six 15-card booster packs without looking at them and shuffle them together.  Set these cards in a pile, face down.
  • Place a card from the pile under each tag face up. The first player rolls the two dice, takes the card or cards on the number rolled, replaces the empty slot with a new card from the pile, and then passes the dice to the opponent.
  • Each player may choose to re-roll up to two times during the whole draft. Each time you choose to re-roll take the top card off the pile and add it to the number you just rolled before re-rolling.
  • After the main pile is depleted, the numbered piles will become vacant. When you roll a number that has a vacant spot, take the cards on the next closest pile to tag number seven. For example, if pile number nine is the only vacant pile and you roll a nine, take the cards on number eight, since it’s the closest non-vacant number to seven. Likewise, if tags four and five are vacant and you roll a four, then you take the card on the six slot, since it’s the next closest to the seven slot.

Once you have finished drafting, build a 40-card minimum deck.

Sideboard

Your remaining cards are considered your sideboard. You may remove any card from your deck and add any number of cards from your sideboard, as long as your deck still meet the deck construction guide lines.

 Mulligan Rules

Standard “Paris” Mulligan is used for this variant.

Before each game begins, a player may, for any reason, reshuffle and redraw his hand, drawing one less card. This may be repeated as often as the player wishes, until he has no cards left in his hand. After the participant, who plays first, mulligans as often as he likes, the decision of whether to mulligan passes to the other player. Once a player passes the opportunity to mulligan, that player may not change his mind.
