Platanias is one of the tourist villages in the northwest of Crete along the main road and the sea between Kolimbari and Chania. The area is rather flat and it consists of one village / hotel after another. Real authentic Greece is not te be found here. It is more a world of concrete and fastfood restaurants. The village attracts the tourists because of its three kilometer long and 35 meter wide beach. It is sometimes refered to as the Chersonissos of the west, but it is less touristic than that and the beach is much larger, wider and better. There are many hotels, apartments and taverna's. It's a good place for people that want to be in a more lively surrounding and that are looking for a stylish hotel.

We ended up here by accident when we were looking for a place to have breakfast at the beach of Platanias. I have not seen such an amazingly extensive and beautiful breakfast buffet in my entire life. For 15 euros per person (2017) you could choose what ever you wanted and eat unlimited. Really very good. Only the coffee may be needs some upgrading.

Our verdict: a 9 out of 10

Sort of a fastfood restaurant on the main road that runs through Platanias (between Kolimbari and Chania). We order cappuccino's, a baguette with tuna salad and a club sandwich. On the menu are breakfasts, snacks, omelettes, pita's, pizza's, giros, salads and many fast kind of foods. it's inepensive and they serve great Illy coffee, crunchy fries and nice sandwiches.

If you are looking for a very spacious and modern villa with breathtaking views than Luxury Villa Provarma Hills may be for you. This villa offers you basically everything you'd epect from a superior villa. The only thing lacking is a big round dot for a helicopter to land on. Villa Provarma Hills is quietly situated on a hill in the north of the island of Crete, just outside the villages of Gerani and Modi in the area between Chania and Kolymbari. The distance to the popular tourist resort of Platanias is about ten minutes by car. Recently a large new Lidl supermarket was opened here, which is easy to find. We though it was very convenient to just buy lots of food here and fill up the trunk of our car, because once you're inside the grounds of the villa you will not feel much need for leaving it again. The area around the villa is also suitable for making nice walks. There are quiet roads and hiking paths that go into the hills.
