Description

 

Peppermint essential oil is extracted from Mentha piperita from the Labiatae family. It is also called brandy mint and balm mint.

 

Precautions

 

This oil may cause sensitization due to the menthol content. It can cause irritation to the skin and mucus membranes and should be kept away from the eyes. It is non-irritating in low doses and non-toxic. Avoid during pregnancy. Do not use on children under the age of 7 years old.

 

Therapeutic Properties

 

Peppermint oil's therapeutic properties include analgesic, anti-infectious, antiseptic, anti-spamodic, carminative, emmenagogue, expectorant, decongestant, digestive, stimulant, vasoconstrictor and vermifuge.

 

Uses

 

Peppermint oil is great for mental fatigue and depression. It can be useful for apathy, shock, headache, migraines, nervous stress, veritgo and syncope. It assist the respiratory system for disorders such as asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, TB, dry coughs, sinus congestion and cholera.

It is beneficial for the digestive system in cases of colic, cramps, dyspepsia, flatulence and nausea. It can alleviate toothaches, painful periods, aching feet, rheumatism and neuralgia.

Peppermint essential oil is also helpful for dermatitis, acne, ringworm, scabies, itching, sunburn and inflammation of the skin.

Add to vapor therapy for coughs, headaches, nausea, mental fatigue and as an insect repellent.

 

Blended In The Bath

Add to massage oil, or dilute in the bath for colic, cramps, back pain, inflamed bowel disorders, catarrh, colitis, circulation, constipation, coughs, diarrhea, sweaty and tired feet, flatulence, headaches, muscular pains, cramps and spasms, neuralgis, nausea, rheumatism and mental fatigue.

 

Mouthwash

Add to distilled water to use as a mouthwash for gum infections and halitosis.

 

Blends Well With

 

Bensoin, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Lemon, Marjoram and Rosemary.
