Description
Dill oil is extracted from Anethum graveolens (a.k.a. Peucedanum graveolens and Fructus anethi) from the Umbelliferae (Apiaceae) family. It is also called American and European dill.
Precautions
Dill essential oil is non-irritating, non-sensitizing and non-toxic. Still avoid during pregnancy due to dill's use as an emmenogogue.
Therapeutic Properties
Dill oil's therapeutic properties include antispasmodic, bactericide, carminative, digestive, disinfectant, emmenagogue, hypotensive, stimulant and stomachic.
Uses
Gripe water made of Dill is often given to babies and children for colic or other digestive complaints. The oil being too powerful should not be used on babies.
It is also beneficial for digestive problems in adults, easing flatulence, constipation and hiccups.
Dill oil eases the mind, eases headaches and reduces excess perspiration due to nervousness. It also stimulates milk flow in mothers whom are nursing.
