Description

 

Cinnamon essential oil is extracted from Cinnamomum zeylanicum (a.k.a. C. verum and Laurus cinnamomum) from the Lauraceae family. It is also known as Ceylon, Madagascar, Seychelles or true cinnamon.

 

Precautions

 

Cinnamon leaf oil is non-toxic, yet since the cinnamaldehyde could cause irritation, and the eugenol irritation to the mucus membranes, it should be used with care.

Due to the emmenagogue action of the oil it should be avoided during pregnancy.

High doses can cause convulsions and should be avoided during pregnancy.

The oil extracted from the bark is a dermal toxin, irritant and sensitizer and must NEVER BE USED ON THE SKIN!

 

Therapeutic Properties

 

The therapeutic properties of Cinnamon oil include antiseptic, antibiotic astringent, carminative, digestive, emmenagogue, stimulant, stomachic, insecticide and antispasmodic.

 

Uses

 

Cinnamon oil can be used for infection of the respiratory tract, rheumatism, arthritis and general pains. It calms an exhausted feeling of depression and stimulates the glanular system thus easing menstrual pains. It also tones the entire body.

 

Burners & Vaporizers

In vapor therapy Cinnamon oil can be used in acute bronchitis and colds, as well as sneezing.

 

Blended In The Bath

Cinnamon essential oil can be used in blended massage oil, or diluted in the bath to help with bronchitis, diarrhea, chills infections, flu, rheumatism and arthritis but use with care since it may irritate the skin and mucus membranes.

 

Blends Well With

 

Benzoin, Cloves, Coriander, Cardomon, Frankincense, Ginger, Grapefruit, Lavender, Rosemary and Thyme.
