Nutmeg essential oil is extracted from Myristica fragrans (a.k.a. Myristica officinalis, M. oromata and Nux moschata) from the Myristicaceae family. It is also known as jatiphala.

 

Precautions

 

This oil is non-irritating, non-sensitizing and non-toxic; however, very large doses may become toxic with wymptoms such as stupor, nausea and emesis. This is due to the myristicin contained in the oil. DO NOT USE DURING PREGNANCY.

 

Therapeutic Properties

 

Nutmeg oil's therapeutic properties include analgesic, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic, cardia, carminative, emmenagogue, laxative, stimulant and tonic.

 

Uses

 

Nutmet essential oil can stimulate the heart and circulation, activate the mind and revive fainting spells. It helps the digestive system with flatulence, nausea, chronic vomiting, bad breath and indigestion. It stimulates the appetite and averts constipation.

Nutmeg oil is useful for scanty periods, frigidity, impotence and can assist with labor by strengthening contractions. It is a warming oil good for muscle aches and pains, arthritis, rheumatism and gout.
