Lemon oil is extracted from the Citrus limonum (a.k.a. Citrus Limon) from the Rutaceae family. It is also referred to as cedro oil.

 

Precautions

 

Lemon essential oil is non-toxic but can cause skin irritation and sensitizing for some people. It is a photo-toxic oil and should be used before sun exposure in any amount.

 

Therapeutic Properties

 

Lemon oil's therapeutic properties include antacid, antibiotic, anti-sclerotic, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic,  anti-neuralgic, carminative, digestive, diuretic, astringent, laxative, febrifuge and vermifuge.

 

Uses

 

Lemon oil is useful for the circulatory system as it helps the blood flow and reduces blood pressure. It also helps with nosebleeds. It reduces fever, helps to relieve throat infections, asthma, bronchitis, and flu. It assists the immune system at cleansing the body, alleviating digestive complaints such as constipation, dyspepsia and cellulite.

Lemon can soothe headaches and migraines as well as arthritis and rheumatism. It can clear up acne, cleanse greasy skin and hair, removing dead skin cells.

Lemon can ease the pain of mouth ulcers, cold sores, herpes and insect bites.

Add to vapor therapy for colds, flu, depression, stress, laryngitis and fatigue.

 

Blended In The Bath
