Description

 

Myrrh essential oil is extracted from Commiphora myrrha (a.k.a. Commiphora molmol and Balsamodendron myrrha) from the Burseraceae family. It is also called bola, myrrha and gum, common and hirabol myrrh.

 

Precautions

 

This oil is non-irritating and non-sensitizing, yet can be toxic in high dosage. DO NOT USE DURING PREGNANCY as Myrrh acts as a uterine stimulant.

 

Therapeutic Properties

 

Myrrh oil's therapeutic properties include anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-phlogistic, antiseptic, astringent, balsamic, carminative, cicatrizant, diuretic, expectorant, fungicidal, stimulant, stomachic and tonic.

 

Uses

 

Myrrh essential oil is effective against excessive mucuc in the lungs. It helps to clear ailments such as colds, catarrh, coughs, sore throats and bronchitis. It is helpful for diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence and hemorrhoids. Myrrh oil is very good for mouth and gum disorders such as mouth ulcers, pyorrhea, gingivitis, spongy gums and sore throats.

For the skin it is useful for the treatment of boils, skin ulcers, bedsores, chapped and cracked skin, ringworm, weeping wounds, eczema and athlete's foot. It is also beneficial in cases of scanty periods, leucorrhoea, thrush and amenorrhea.

Add to vapor therapy for bronchitis, catarrh, colds and coughs.

 

Blended In The Bath

Add to massage oil, or dilute in the bath for bronchitis, catarrh, colds, coughs, and infection.

 

Mouthwash

Add to distilled water to use as a mouthwash for dental infections.

 

Compress

Dilute and add to cold compress for sores, skin care and wounds.

 

Blends Well With

 

Benzoin, Cloves, Frankincense, Lavender and Sandalwood.
