Marjoram essential oil is extracted from Origanum marjorana (a.k.a. Origanum hortensis) from the Labiatae family. It is also called knotted marjoram.

 

Precautions

 

This oil is non-irritating, non-sensitizing and non-toxic.  Because it has an emmenogogue effect, do not use during pregnancy.

 

Therapeutic Properties

 

Marjoram oil's therapeutic properties include analgesic, anaphrodisiac, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic, carminative, cordial, digestive, emmenagogue, expectorant, laxative, nervine, tonic and vulnerary.

 

Uses

 

This is a warming oil that is good for soothing emotions. It comforts and relaxes nervous energy, relieves anxiety and calms hyperactivity. Marjoram essential oil acts as a muscle relaxant while being of benefit to arthritic and rheumatic conditions.

For digestion it alleviates cramps, indigestion, constipation and flatulence. For the respiratory system it benefits conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, colds and sinusitis. Marjoram is a relaxant and is used for headaches, migraines and sleeplessnes. It regulates the menstrual cycle and quells sexual desires.
