Clove oil is extracted from Eugenia caryophyliata (a.k.a. Syzygium aromaticum, Eugenia aromatica, E. carophyllus) from the Myrtaceae family.

 

Precautions

 

Clove essential oil is very potent and should be used with care. Do not use in massage oils or in bath products as it may irritate the skin. It must be avoided during pregnancy. Clove oil can cause dermatitis and irritate the mucus membranes.

 

Therapeutic Properties

 

The therapeutic properties of Clove essential oil include analgesic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, anti-neuralgic, carminative, anti-infectious, disinfectant, insecticide, stimulant and tonic.

 

Uses

 

Clove leaf oil can be used for acne bruises, burns and cuts. It is beneficial at relieving toothache pain, mouth sores, rheumatism and arthritis. It is good for the digestive tract and helpful against vomiting, diarrhea, flatulence, spasms and parasites. Also good at fighting halitosis.

Clove essential oil beneficial for respiratory problems such as bronchitis, asthma and TB. The disinfecting characteristic of Clove oil is useful in cases of infectious disease. Placing a few drops of Clove essential oil on a cotton ball and then putting it in with your linens is helpful against moths and keeps your linens fragrant.

In vapor therapy Clove oil can benefit bronchitis and syncope.

 

In Massage Oils

Clove oil can be used in a blended massage oil (use a low dilution of less than 1%) to benefit bronchitis, chills, colds, diarrhea, spasms, rheumatism, numbness and arthritis.

 

Mouthwash

Blend Clove oil with distilled water to make a mouthwash that will help relieve a toothache.
