Description
Caraway oil is extracted from Carum carvi (a.k.a. Apium carvi) from the Umbelliferae family. It is also referred to as carum.
Precautions
Although it is non-toxic and non-sensitizing it may cause skin irritation if used in high concentration.
Therapeutic Properties
The therapeutic properties of Caraway oil include anti-histaminic, antiseptic, astringent, carminative, digestive, disinfectant, emmenagogue, expectorant, stimulant, stomachic, tonic and vermifuge.
Uses
Caraway oil calms the nerves and soothes mental fatigue. It settles the stomach, nervous digestion, colic, flatulence and gastric spasms.
As an expectorant it helps clear bronchitis, bronchial asthma and coughs. It is also helpful in cases of sore throats and laryngitis.
Caraway oil can be beneficial to the urnary system, helping to flush toxins out. It is said to increase milk in nursing mothers, relieve menstrual pains, and relieve itching skin and acne.
