Shangala is the second of the three areas in the game that a rutter is required to gain access to. You probably wouldn't have thought about questing here if you didn't fare well against the monsters in Hie Brasil, but having done well in past areas of the game doesn't necessarily mean that you're ready to face the monsters here. The monsters of Shangala will be more than eager to present an entirely new challenge to you, and you'll find that powerful Ieatsu attacks will often be made against you. Worse yet, many of the monsters in Shangala will attempt to run away from you as soon as you have the upper hand in battle. Nonetheless, if your character is strong enough to survive in this region, be prepared to reap the benefits of stocking up on the many powerful weapons that are dropped by the monsters. The Masamune/Koutetsu has always been a popular weapon combination among many successful players in the game and the Shuriken can be a good substitute for an offensive left-handed weapon if you weren't lucky enough to find a Crystal Gauntlet in Hie Brasil. Don't even think about coming to this area if you don't have at least a few Bottled Faeries in your backpack.

Koutetsu

Providing an excellent amount of defense points, the Koutetsu is one of the most popular body armaments among serious players. Like many other body armaments, the Koutetsu subtracts skill, but it's also the only body armour in the game that provides base attack points. Be sure to replace your Snake Scale Suit with one of these.

Asaura

Although the Asaura provides a satisfactory amount of defense, it probably isn't good enough to replace the Sea Slippers/Swift Boots that your character's wearing right now. Keep it if it provides at least 40 defense; otherwise, sell it for a few hundred marks.

Nunchaku

For a right-handed weapon that's found late in the game, the Nunchaku isn't a very good weapon. Chances are, you've found Rat Tail Whips in the Dungeons that provide even more attack than this weapon. Either sell it for marks or save them if you're planning to make Titan Blades at the Dragon Guard.

Foul Axe

The Foul Axe is basically a downscaled version of the Rat Tail Whip; it doesn't provide as much defense or skill as a Rat Tail Whip. In addition, it's found late in the game and is hardly going to be effective against the monsters that you're facing in Shangala. Just sell your Foul Axes for a few thousand marks.

Spirit Katana

A Spirit Katana provides just about as many attack points as a Gladius, but it provides a lot more skill and comes with the Panic attribute. It's only fitting that a Spirit Katana should have a lot of base skill since you're going to need a lot of it to prevent your opponents from running away from you. If you're going to use a Spirit Katana, make sure that you have a pair of Silver Sea Slippers/Crystal Swift Boots equipped because you'll need all the skill that you can get! Still, it may be a better idea to wait until your character is strong enough to quest in Azteca and pick up an Amini Club. Unlike Spirit Katanas, Amini Clubs provide more attack, more skill, and doesn't come with the Panic attribute.

Masamune

Providing a high amount of attack points, the Masamune is one of the most popular right-handed weapons among serious players. On average, it provides more attack than a Gladius and a Spirit Katana. Be sure to replace your Gladius with one of these.

Shuriken

If you're looking for a good offensive left-handed weapon, the Shuriken is probably your best bet if you haven't been lucky enough to find a Crystal Gauntlet in Hie Brasil. Since it provides a satisfactory amount of attack and a lot of skill, you may want to use a Shuriken if you have a Spirit Katana or a Silver Masamune equipped.

Matchlock Rifle

The Matchlock Rifle is one of the best two-handed weapons in the game; however, it simply isn't good enough of a late-game weapon to replace two weapons. It may have an inherent attribute in Blast, but it won't work at all unless your character deals less than 120 damage. But at this stage of the game, your character should be able to inflict a lot more than 120 points of damage. Sell it for a very nice amount of marks.
