The Fields is the very first area of the game that you're able to quest in, and none of the monsters here are known for dropping spectacular weapons. If it's your very first day of questing, you'll quickly realize the importance of equipping weapons and armour to your character; just about any weapon that you can get your hands on here is going to be useful if it's your first day. Then again, the selection of weapons here is very limited - none of the monsters drop helmets, footwear, or left-handed weapons. You'll come across a few two-handed weapons, but it's always a good idea to sell them for marks so that you'll have enough money to purchase better weapons at Bill Smith's weapon shop.

Clothes

This is the weakest body armanent that is dropped by monsters in the game, but if it's one of your very first days of questing and you don't have any body armour equipped, having Clothes equipped is better than having nothing equipped. Most of the Clothes that are dropped by the Merchants are low enough to not require identification at the Weapons shop, but if you find an unidentified Clothes, it means that it either provides at least 4 defense points or has a rare attribute.

Leather Jacket

Leather Jackets are an improvement over Clothes and many of the jackets that are dropped by the Gypsies are low enough to not require identification at the Weapons shop. However, if you find an unidentified Leather Jacket, it means that it either provides at least 6 defense points or has a rare attribute. Replace this jacket with a Scale Suit from Aimee Suitor's Armoury when you have enough marks.

Half Plate

Half Plates provide more defense than any other body armour that can be found in the Fields, but in some cases, a Scale Suit from Aimee Suitor's Armoury should be used instead because it doesn't subtract as many skill. Still, a Half Plate that provides at least 14 or 16 defense points should serve as a good replacement for the Scale Suit if you already have one equipped. Sell any other additional plates that you receive for a nice amount of marks.

Rusty Dagger

This dagger is the weakest right-handed weapon that is dropped by monsters in the game, but if it's one of your very first days of questing and you don't have a right-handed weapon equipped, equipping a Rusty Dagger is better than using your fists. Most of the Rusty Daggers that are dropped by the Goblins are low enough to not require identification at the Weapons shop, but if you find an unidentified Rusty Dagger, it means that it either provides at least 6 attack points or has a rare attribute. The Rusty Dagger is also the only weapon in the game that naturally comes rusted.

Throwing Knife

The Throwing Knife is a satisfactory right-handed weapon that provides an equal amount of attack and skill, but you should be ready to replace this knife with a Broad Sword from Bill Smith's Weapon Shop as soon as you've acquired enough marks. Some of the Throwing Knives that are dropped by the Gypsies are low enough to not require identification at the Weapons shop; sell these for some marks.

Staff

The Staff is the weakest two-handed weapon that is dropped by monsters in the game, but if it's one of your very first days of questing and you don't have a left or right-handed weapon equipped, equipping a Staff is better than using your fists. Some of the Staffs that are dropped by the Merchants are low enough to not require identification at the Weapons shop.

Long Bow

Two-handed weapons in general aren't favored by many players and the Long Bow isn't an exception. It may provide a satisfactory amount of attack and skill, but it's best to sell it for a couple hundred marks at the Weapons shop. Use the marks to purchase a Broad Sword from Bill Smith and a Spike Shield from Aimee Suitor.

Pike

This is the best two-handed weapon that you can find in the Fields, but it still shouldn't be equipped. Instead, it should be in your best interests to sell the Pike; it sells for a few hundred marks at the Weapons shop and the marks can be used to buy a Steel Sword and a Sword Breaker at Smithy's when your character reaches level 8.
