Scrolls Guide
There are six different scrolls in the game that you can either collect or use on your weapons. With the exception of the Enchant Scroll, each scroll will work only once if it's successful. In other words, don't bother using a Bless scroll on a weapon that already has the Bless attribute on it because it isn't going to do anything.

Scroll Effect Notes Dropped By
Bless Adds +5% of Base defense to any weapon. It can also be used to lift curses off of cursed weapons. This doesn't do anything if your weapon provides 0 Base defense. Goblin Vault, Hercules, Panda
Enchant Adds +1 Skill for each successful enchantment; +1 Attack for first five successful enchantments, +1 Defense for next five successful enchantments, and so on. This is the only scroll that can be used more than once a weapon; however, only a certain amount of them can be used on a weapon successfully. Please refer to the last column of each weapon on the In-Depth Weapons Guide. Azteca Soldier, Goblin Champion, Goblin Vault, Medusa, Panda, Shogun, Sphinx, Unicorn
Flame Adds +10% of Base attack to Right and Right/Left weapons. This doesn't do anything if your weapon provides 0 Base attack, and it doesn't do anything for weapons that aren't Right or Right/Left handed. Also, weapons with Flames can be swallowed by Worms, Sea Serpents, and Anacondas. Panda, Priest, Sphinx
Glow Adds +5% of Base skill to a weapon and allows you to quest in the Mounds and Dungeons without using Torches. Weapons with Glow can be swallowed by Worms, Sea Serpents, and Anacondas. Goblin Vault, Shogun, Warlock
Identify Identifies an unidentified weapon/armour in your backpack. Is more expensive than simply identifying weapons at an in-game shop. Dungeon Mage, Gryphon, Medusa, Priest, Sphinx, Treasury Guard, Warlock
Luck Adds +10% of Base skill to Right and Right/Left weapons. This doesn't do anything if your weapon provides 0 Base skill, and it doesn't do anything for weapons that aren't Right or Right/Left handed. Goblin Vault, Panda, Sphinx

Success Rate of a Scroll
Not all scrolls that are used on a weapon will be applied successfully; in fact, many of the scrolls that you use on a weapon will end up in failure. The success rate of any scroll is dependent on two important numbers: your character's amount of wits and the Maximum Enchants number of the weapon that you're trying to apply the scroll to. If your weapon isn't rusted, you can retrieve the Maximum Enchants number by referring to the final column for your weapon under the In-Depth Weapons Guide.

The formula for the success rate of any scroll is Wits / Wits + Max Enchants. Here's an example of a character with 300 Wits who wishes to apply an enchant scroll to a weapon with 200 Max Enchants: 300 / 300+200 = 300/500 or 60% chance that the enchant scroll will be applied successfully.

Increasing your character's amount of Wits can greatly increase the success rate of any scroll.

Weapons with Negative Base Skill
One person has asked if a weapon with negative base skill will take the absolute value of the base skill or the actual base skill when a Luck or Glow scroll is applied to that weapon. The answer is that it'll take the absolute value of the base skill, meaning that the skill will increase instead of decrease. The statistical gains with Lucky or Glows are higher for weapons with higher negative base skill.

Blast to the Past
For a while after the DC Upgrade on April 8, 2002, the functions of scrolls were markedly different and weren't dependent on a weapon's stats:

Bless Scroll: Added +1 Defense to any weapon; it lifted curses from cursed weapons.
Enchant Scroll: Added +1 Skill to any weapon; +1 Attack for first five successful enchantments, +1 Defense for next five successful enchantments, and so on.
Flame Scroll: Added +8 Attack to Right and Right/Left handed weapons. Could now be swallowed by Worms.
Glow Scroll: Added +2 Skill to any weapon and added Glow to that weapon.
Identify Scroll: Identified any weapon.
Luck Scroll: Added +12 Skill to Right and Right/Left handed weapons.

Even Further to the Past
Before the DC Upgrade on April 8, 2002, the functions of scrolls also weren't dependent on a weapon's stats:

Bless Scroll: Added +1 Defense to any weapon; it lifted curses from cursed weapons.
Enchant Scroll: Added +1 Skill to any weapon.
Flame Scroll: Added +4 Attack to Right and Right/Left handed weapons. Weapons with Flames couldn't be swallowed by Worms.
Glow Scroll: Added Glow to weapons.
Identify Scroll: Identified any weapon.
Luck Scroll: Added +2 Skill to any weapon.

Out of all these scrolls, the Identify Scroll is the only scroll whose function has stayed consistent throughout the years.
