ANOTHER PLACE WHERE THE MEDIA AND THE POLITICIANS FAILED: Mike Grunwald On The Army Corps Of Engineers And Katrina. “When Katrina hit, the Army Corps originally claimed it had overtopped and overwhelmed its levees. That’s why FEMA became the villain. But my engineer pals in New Orleans showed me the Corps was lying. You could see the debris line on the levees! 1800 people died because the Corps flood protection failed. They were victims of bad engineering & bad priorities.”

JOSHUA SHARF: President Obama has lost the argument on Iran. “When your best argument for an agreement is that the deal’s opponents are ‘making common cause’ with your negotiating partners, it’s safe to say you’ve lost the debate.”

ISIS USES CHEMICAL WEAPONS AGAINST KURDS: And note this: “Late last year, ISIS reportedly seized an Iraqi chemical weapons factory with about 2,500 rockets, containing the deadly nerve agent Sarin.”

Chemical weapons in Iraq? All the experts told me that was umpossible!

WHO LOST IRAQ? BARACK OBAMA LOST IRAQ. “At one point Barack Obama and Joe Biden basked in the success of the surge that was authorized by George W. Bush and carried out by Gen. David Petraeus. They proclaimed Iraq one of the Obama administration’s greatest accomplishments, taking credit for a military and diplomatic effort that had nothing to do with them. And then that ideologically-obsessed dummy, Barack Obama, threw it all away.”

SHOT: Democrats face a once-in-a-career decision on Iran.

CHASER: I’M WARNING DEMOCRATS HERE AND NOW: Putting Obama Over Country Is Treason.

WIPING ISRAEL OFF THE MAP: “If Israelis aren’t paranoid, they should be. Every time they turn around, someone is trying to wipe their country off the map. Literally.”

Of course, Mr. Obama’s would-be deal with Iran is designed to simply take that punitive worldview to its ultimate end game.

RELATED: “Obama lawyers intervene to protect PLO funds in terrorism cases: In an unusual legal move, the Obama administration has taken the legal side of the Palestinian Authority and Palestine Liberation Organization in a federal court case that American terrorism victims’ families had already won.”

Unexpectedly.

IS IT 1968 AGAIN? CRIME RISING “UNEXPECTEDLY:” How bad is it? So bad that as Steve Hayward writes at Power Line, even the New York Times has noticed – and of course, the Times passage that Steve quotes listing the cities of Baltimore, New Orleans, Washington DC and St. Louis is a classic “Name that Party” moment.

NAME THAT PARTY, SPECIAL 80th ANNIVERSARY EDITION: Boarded buildings and bullet-ridden walls: Pictures show the dark underbelly of one of America’s most dangerous cities.

Missing from the text of the London Daily Mail’s chilling Detroit-on-the-Delaware photo expose on the no-go zone in my old stomping grounds of South Jersey? “Frederick Von Nieda was Camden’s last Republican Mayor — he served until 1936.”

Started listening to an NPR pocast on pop culture recently.  The other ay they were iscussing how important it is to have a broa range of interest in film, music, lit, etc.  They made fun of a woman who claimed to like ALL kins of music. from Billy Joel to Billy Idol.  They tyhen went on to recommend a broad range of liberal literature.  Lots of multi-culti.  No pro-American.  No right wing.  Laughable at first.  Then just sad.

Which brings me to todays links:

Just finished Summer of the Gods .... VERY good telling of the actual Scopes trial.  Gets a little off track tpward the end when it wanders in to an analysis of McCarthyism without recognizing that McCarthy was right.

Also working on the Meditations of Marcus Aurelious ... the Analects of Confucious .....Rosseau on the Social Contract...... some Mises an Rothbard ....and an interesting law review article on the origin of falsly yelling fire in a crowded theater meme.

WASHINGTON EXAMINER: DONALD TRUMP IS JUST LIKE PRESIDENT OBAMA WHERE IT COUNTS.

Really? Do tell.

YOU HATE IT FROM BARACK OBAMA. BUT YOU LOVE IT FROM DONALD TRUMP, Rick Wilson writes at IJ Review:

You hated how Obama rode the wave of constant attention from the mainstream media into office, and how they played along with his game, draining the life out of every other candidate by describing him as an inevitable juggernaut, an unstoppable political force, and a game-changer who was tapping into something deep and powerful in American political life.

But you love it from Trump.

You hated how Obama’s naive ignorance of the real and brutal world of international affairs was papered over by his hollow promises to make the world respect the United States again.

But you love it from Trump.

You hated Obama’s casual disdain for people who weren’t from a major city where, you know, all the rich, smart, educated, liberal people like him live.

But you love it from Trump.

The Sokal Experiment. - WAY too frequent

OF COURSE: GOV’T RECOMMENDATIONS ON BREAKFAST WERE BASED ON BASICALLY NOTHING, PROBABLY WRONG.

ANOTHER GOVERNMENT HEALTH ADVICE FAIL:

The National Institute of Health’s We Can! program, which aims to help children maintain a healthy weight, steers families toward low-fat foods. The program lists diet soda and ketchup as foods to eat “almost anytime,” but says low-fat milk should be consumed only “sometimes.” The NIH program puts whole milk in the most restricted category as cookies, doughnuts and French fries, to be consumed only “once in a while.”

Soda good, whole milk bad. Because the Evil Fatz. Somebody send them a copy of Gary Taubes’ book, stat!

 Reason Magazine weekly contest:

After San Francisco proposed requiring warning labels on sugar-sweetened drinks that would say, " Drinking beverages with added sugar(s) contributes to obesity, diabetes and tooth decay," we asked you for the next warning label to be required by that town.

THIRD PLACE:

WARNING: Reading government-required warning labels may cause the following: nearsightedness, fatigue, depression, anxiety, restlessness, apathy, anger, irritation, nausea, uncontrollable rage, uncontrollable giggles, nervousness, sweating, high blood pressure, twitching, facial tics, stroke, heartburn, indigestion, paranoia, diarrhea, apoplexy, dizziness, fainting, vomiting, suicidal thoughts,  asthma, shortness of breath and a strong urge to consume alcohol. Reading government-required warning labels is strongly discouraged during the following activities: driving a motor vehicle, boating, sailing, operating heavy machinery, surgery, operating a shopping cart in a grocery store, exiting an escalator, using a cellphone, exiting an elevator, voting, pouring a cup of coffee, drinking coffee, ironing, vacuuming, operating a toaster, swimming with Killer Whales, plugging in a major appliance, replacing a light bulb, using a microwave oven, using a washing machine to wash clothes, using a clothes dryer, putting sharp objects in a dishwasher, swinging a golf club, opening a can of peaches, operating a garbage disposal, using a Q-tip, climbing a ladder, eating hot pizza, cleaning a drain with chemicals, lighting a cigarette, bicycling, moving a luggage cart, painting, using a nail clipper, shampooing your hair, moving a mattress, opening a soda can, eating an Oreo cookie, opening a McDonald’s Happy Meal, brushing your teeth, unwrapping toys, taking medication, using a firearm, eating peanuts, cooking with wheat, and chewing gum. The adhesive chemical should not be swallowed or inhaled. Skin in contact with the adhesive should be washed thoroughly. If the adhesive from the government-required warning label should come in contact with the eyes, rinse thoroughly immediately and then seek medical attention. Detached government-required warning labels should be disposed of promptly and properly. See local regulations for disposal of possible hazardous materials. A Simple Tale About Switching To Renewable Power: Requirements & Consequences.

Obama's Clean Power Plan Would Reduce Global Warming by -0.015 Degree By 2100

HEY, REMEMBER WHEN THEY WERE TELLING US WE WERE AT “PEAK OIL?” Everybody point and laugh.

remember this?  GOVERNMENT IS JUST A WORD FOR THE THINGS WE CHOOSE TO DO TOGETHER:  Now theres this:  WHY DOES THE EPA HATE NATIVE AMERICANS? Navajo Nation preps lawsuit against EPA over mine spill. an JOHN HINDERAKER: The Gold King Mine Fiasco: What It Tells Us About the EPA. “We have written here and here about the EPA-caused spill of three million gallons of toxic liquid into the Animas River in Colorado. Private companies that have caused environmental disasters of that magnitude (or much less) have been criminally prosecuted; in some cases, individuals have been jailed. Will the EPA face similar accountability? Just kidding.”

You mean its the SUN?  Is Ozone Recovery Warming the Stratosphere – And Adding Credence to Solar Variability?

EVERYTHING IS SEEMINGLY SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL: Actual AP headline: “AP Exclusive: California fails on promises to create green jobs, energy savings.”

Gosh, other than half the country, who could have seen that one coming?!

UNEXPECTEDLY: Report: Obama Admin Taking the Side of Palestinians Over U.S. Citizens in Terror Case.

WITH OBAMA YAMMERING ON ABOUT IRAQ IN DEFENSE OF HIS AWFUL IRAN DEAL, I’m rerunning this post again:

BOB WOODWARD: Bush Didn’t Lie About WMD, And Obama Sure Screwed Up Iraq In 2011.

WORST PRESIDENT EVER: Obama’s Attack on Iran Deal Critics Compares GOP Caucus to ‘Death to America’ Chanters.

IowaHawk: “Remember when dissent was the highest form of patriotism? Good times.”

A BLOOMBERG EDITORIAL: Obama Puts Fear Before Facts on Iran.

Related: Barack Obama’s Lowest Moment Yet? “It was the usual exercise in deception and demagoguery, and he skated up to the edge of accusing opponents of the deal–a majority of Americans, apparently–of treason.”

JAMES TARANTO: Obama goes “Full Orwell.” He’s been full Orwell for many years now, but Taranto’s right that Obama’s speech yesterday on the Iran nuclear deal was especially rich with patent falsehoods.

THEN CHUCK SCHUMER CAME OUT AGAINST THE DEAL, WHICH MAKES THIS AWKWARD: Obama doubles down on his comparison between Iranian hardliners and Republicans who oppose his Iran deal. Will anyone in the press ask Obama if he thinks Chuck Schumer is comparable to an Iranian hardliner?

This is bush league stuff. They may still pull this out, but it’s beginning to look like Obama’s Syria debacle. Will Putin provide him a figleaf again?

Related: Obama To Jews: If This Deal Fails, I’ll Blame You. Blame the Jews for his own incompetence? Now that sounds like something an Iranian hardliner might do. . .

THE WHITE HOUSE AND JEWS: “It’s the kind of dark, nasty stuff we might expect to hear at a white power rally, not from the President of the United States—and it’s gotten so blatant that even many of us who are generally sympathetic to the administration, and even this deal, have been shaken by it.”

Well, you should have been paying attention earlier.

THIS FROM THE GUY WHO SENT HIS OWN CONSULTANTS TO TRY AND DEFEAT BIBI: Obama says Israeli interference in US affairs over Iran deal unprecedented.

THINGS WERE A LOT BETTER IN 2008. IRAQ WAS STABLE, SYRIA WAS STABLE, YEMEN WAS STABLE, LIBYA WAS STABLE. . . . Michael Young: Obama alone bears the blame for the mess America has helped make of the Middle East.
