Final Four: Kentucky of course.  Virginia.  Wisconsin (don't laugh) and Arizona.  Some like Gonzaga out of the west but they're in the next tier.

along with Utah, Duke, and Villanova.  No huge surprises.

Rounding out the top 16:  Ohio State (could crack the top 8 but not playing well right now - need to impress in the tourney).  The next batch played the toughest schedules in the country: North Carolina, Oklahoma, Baylor, Kansas, Iowa State.  Louisville because, well, they're Louisville.  Considered Wichita State fr the last slot but they play a REALLY crap schedule and only this past week finally beat a team in the top 50.  Notre Dame isn't much better.  Let's go with a middlin' Texas team instead.

A seasoned Washington reporter — distinct in his fashionable black jacket, pressed jeans and once shiny dress shoes now caked with New Hampshire mud — approaches a woman who clutches a Sharpie and a copy of Rubio’s last book.

Woman: “I thought it was great. I liked how he related to average people, you know? I don’t hear a lot of candidates talking about how to make it easier for low-income families to succeed in America.”

Reporter: “It didn’t bother you that his second cousin once removed said Tom Brady wears ladies underwear?

Woman: “Who said that?”

Reporter: “Rubio’s second cousin once removed. He said it at a Miami fund-raiser three weeks ago. Thus far, Rubio has failed to disown his cousin, denounce the comment, or apologize to Tom Brady for it.”

Yeah, pretty much. And reporters wonder why nobody respects them.

The American black man should be focusing his every effort toward building his own businesses and decent homes for himself. As other ethnic groups have done, let the black people, wherever possible, however possible, patronize their own kind, and start in those ways to build up the black race's ability to do for itself. That’s the only way the American black man is ever going to get respect.

That's the newest arguement technique I've been getting from the left.

I mentioned a certain Elph Prexy front-runner the other day. "Oh, he thinks women who dress provocatively are asking for rape."  My response was "Really?  I hand't heard that.  Find me a link to that speech."

"I don't have time."

Donk: "Yes POTUS HAS referred to ISIS et al as Islamic terrorists."

Me:  "Find me any single soundbite where he's done that."

Donk:"I don't have time."

You get  the feel.  Here's the thing - if the statement is that important it shouldn't take more than 30 seconds to find a clip.  I have links to stupid POTUS/Biden/Reid/Pelosi/H. Clinto statements at my fingertips.

I've only seen three of this year's nominees (the one about the hotel, the one about the washed up film store, and the one about the differently abled Socialist scientist).  So perhaps I shouldn't be posting this.  But Nate Silver is becoming something of a man-crush for me and he had a nice article about it: How History Judges The Oscars’ Closest Calls

I don't agree with ALL of his analysis but here are a few I felt strongly about:

Year: 1998

Oscar Winner: “Shakespeare in Love” (Empire: not ranked; IMDb: 7.2)

Spurned Film: “Saving Private Ryan” (Empire: No. 76; IMDb: 8.5)

This is among the biggest Oscar upsets of the past three decades — and the one that remains the hardest to fathom now. “Shakespeare in Love,” the winner, is almost completely forgotten about today except when it’s mentioned in articles like this one. “Saving Private Ryan,” conversely, rates as the third best film of the 1990s (behind “Schindler’s List” and “Unforgiven”) on the AFI list.

Oscar Winner: “Crash” (Empire: not ranked; IMDb: 7.9)

Spurned Film: “Brokeback Mountain” (Empire: No. 222; IMDb: 7.7)

I remarked on Twitter on Sunday night that “Crash” over “Brokeback Mountain” looks like an even worse choice in retrospect. Indeed, “Crash” has become something of a running punchline for Hollywood’s failings. The movie’s IMDb ratings are actually not bad, but I feel safe asserting that they don’t reflect the critical consensus of how “Crash” is viewed today.

The thing is, though, that if “Crash” hadn’t won, some other film would have had to. And while “Brokeback Mountain” was an important film — especially for an industry that spent so long in the closet — it wasn’t necessarily a great film. Although it ranks in the Empire top 301, its IMDb rating is just decent, and Netflix reviewers barely even give it three stars. It’s not even talked about that much anymore except when the subject of Oscar snubs comes up.
