A venture capitalist searches for the purpose of school. Here’s what he found. (I suspect for most places and parents the answer would be “Keeping the kids out of trouble while the parents work.  And that is the root of most of our educational problems.)

Creighton Joins Rankings Hall Of Shame; Graduation Rate Was 43%, Not 91%.

Related: Bar Exam Carnage Continued: 10 Of 15 New York Law Schools Suffer Bar Pass Rate Declines.

And, inevitably: Deans Of Some California Law Schools Say Low LSAT Scores Do Not Predict Bar Exam Failure. Color me skeptical. At Tennessee, we did a study on our own graduates back in the 1990s and found that LSAT scores were the single best predictor of bar passage, which isn’t surprising when you consider that both are big, stressful exams about legal reasoning.

I had the higheskt LSAT score in my graduating class at ONU .... bu was in the bottom half of my Law School class.  Passed the bar first try under adverse circumstances.  Yes, it's anecdotal and only one data point, but it's MY data point, dammit.

Homeschooled with MIT courses at 5, accepted to MIT at 15. “After acquiring his entire elementary and secondary education from OpenCourseWare and MITx, Ahaan Rungta joined the MIT Class of 2019 at age 15.”

HARRISON BERGERON, TEXT YOUR OFFICE: Regulators Want To Make Uber Drivers Wait 5 Minutes Because They Are Too Efficient.

NYPD COMMISSIONER CONFUSES LEFT-LEANING MANHATTAN RESIDENTS BY EMPLOYING CITY’S RAREST COMMODITY, LOGIC: ‘One of the quickest ways to get rid of the homeless is not to give’: Bill Bratton causes a stir by telling New Yorkers to stop handing over change to beggars amid city’s street people epidemic.

Back in 2009 the left-leaning SF Weekly observed, in classic Fox Butterfield fashion, “Despite its spending more money per capita on homelessness than any comparable city, [San Francisco's] homeless problem is worse than any comparable city’s.” Apparently the left still can’t make the connection.

I've been saying this for years, now EVEN WAPO ADMITS: Rand Paul is right: The most economically unequal states are Democratic. Does inequality arise from Democratic policies, or do Democratic policies arise from inequality? Yes.

Let's hit the media
Now Playing: Hell is for Heroes
Topic: History

then call it a night.

WASHINGTON POST COLUMNIST, FACE THE NATION HOST STRICKEN WITH MYSTERIOUS CASE OF COLLECTIVE AMNESIA:

Appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation Sunday, Washington Post columnist David Ignatius blasted the GOP presidential candidates for daring to complain about the biased questions asked during last month’s CNBC debate.

Moderator John Dickerson teed up Ignatius by playing a clip of President Obama who mocked the Republicans’ debate complaints which prompted the Post columnist to declare the American public want someone who does more than “whines about media coverage.”

Really? Because for the last six years, we’ve seen constant headlines such as these:

Oh, and as a casual aside, John Dickerson, the host of Face the Nation, wrote a column at the start of 2013 for Slate, when it was still owned by the Washington Post, advising Mr. Obama to “Go for the Throat! Why if he wants to transform American politics, Obama must declare war on the Republican Party.” It carries the alternative headline, “Why Obama Should Seek To Destroy the Republican Party.”

CHUCK TODD: BEN CARSON’S ‘PERSONAL STORY’ IN ‘DANGER’ BECAUSE POLITICIANS LIE: Well, the man for whom Chuck began his career* as a Democratic operative certainly did, as Glenn highlighted a decade ago.

MSNBC GOES BACK TO THE FUTURE! “MSNBC: Hillary Supporter Wanting to ‘Strangle’ Fiorina Was ‘Sort of Funny’”

Sort of like wanting “take her into a room and only he comes out,” to coin a phrase. Or perhaps, “She might stick around to be the slowest-moving target imaginable for comedians and commentators. It would be like shooting moose from a chopper,” to coin another MSNBC-approved phrase.

Somewhere, Keith Olbermann and Martin Bashir are shaking their heads and wondering what on earth they did wrong.

CHRIS MATTHEWS NOT SURE IF CRUZ, RUBIO REALLY HISPANIC; THEY’RE ‘CUBAN NATIONALS’ THOUGH.

To paraphrase a one-time frequent MSNBC guest, this is about hating the notion of a Hispanic man in the White House. This is racism straight up. Perhaps the synapses are misfiring in Chris’s limbic brain.

FISH DON’T KNOW THEY’RE WET: MSNBC’s Chris Hayes Denies Existence of Liberal Media Bias.

[David Bernstein] Obama administration lawlessness: the top five

ONE OF THESE HEADLINES IS NOT LIKE THE OTHERS:

Desperate lives of women domestic workers exposed to appalling exploitation, physical violence and sexual abuse in Qatar.

—The London Daily Mail, April 22nd, 2014.

Qatar’s foreign domestic workers subjected to slave-like conditions.

—The London Guardian, February 26, 2014.

In Qatar Speech, Michelle Obama Complains About Growing Up as a Girl in America.

—The Weekly Standard, yesterday.

related:

WASHINGTON POST: From coast to coast, conservatives score huge victories in off-year elections. “Even in San Francisco, the sheriff who steadfastly defended the city’s ‘sanctuary city’ policy went down.”

AND YET PEOPLE IN THE GOVERNMENT THOUGHT OBAMACARE WOULD BE EASY: A decade into a project to digitize U.S. immigration forms, just 1 is online. “Heaving under mountains of paperwork, the government has spent more than $1 billion trying to replace its antiquated approach to managing immigration with a system of digitized records, online applications and a full suite of nearly 100 electronic forms. A decade in, all that officials have to show for the effort is a single form that’s now available for online applications and a single type of fee that immigrants pay electronically. The 94 other forms can be filed only with paper.”

Innovation At The Speed Of Government!

Why, it’s as if President Obama is the second coming of Woodrow Wilson or something.

The collapse of College continued
Topic: Edumacation

No dear reader you didn't miss an earlier post.  This kind of thing has been documented here before but it got WAY out of hand last month at Mizzou, and Yale, and Vandy, and others.  So rather than nickel and dime I sperated these gems out so as to be able to sort and throw them out a little sooner than I usually get around to things.  So buckle up ... it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

For starters, on 10/31, we had this (go get em Buckeyes!)  THE ECONOMIST RANKS COLLEGES based on whether post-college earnings overperform or underperform relative to expectations. The winners and losers may surprise you. They certainly should make Yale nervous.

and here's a nice piece on why I'm substituting in rural central Ohio instead of in a college classroom where I was for five years:   The Closing Of A Newsroom’s Mind: I’ve seen how for-profit colleges can help students—many of them older and seeking better jobs—but the government and the media want to shut them down.

Vassar and Oberlin LITERALLY shreddig the Constitution:  VIDEO: Administrators literally shred Constitution after reporter calls it ‘oppressive’ and ‘triggering.’

and now a sampling of reallygood stuff:

Students at Yale, Missouri Beg College Administrators to Play Mommy and Daddy

THE UNITED STATES OF THE NEW YORK TIMES:

This temper tantrum at Yale is what the world would look like if we were run as a nation by the New York Times. A victim hiding under every bed and a grievance in every pot.

Also emotionally and mentally frail. If the left is truly interested in suicide prevention perhaps they should end the coddling that creates emotional basket cases the moment they encounter resistance or a differing opinion. In most cases, however, those who so readily embrace their victim status are, more often than not, the perp.

Progressives have spent decades dividing the American people, then convincing them their group is the victim of the “others” in order to win politically. Manipulation disguised as concern. And it’s worked.

Now it’s turning on itself; the monsters they’ve created are loose inside the castle walls. Grab a drink and watch it burn.

The Times declares, “In time, the bigots are destined to lose.” Considering how much they’re losing, both at the ballot box and their bottom line, it sure looks like they might be right.

Similarly, the American Spectator adds, “Houston, we don’t have a problem, though the N.Y. Times does:”

Coverage. “After desperately trying to gin up media coverage of student protests at the University of Missouri, once of the school’s media professors is now furiously trying to ‘muscle’ the press off campus to prevent them from covering student protests that rapidly spiraled out of control Monday. . . . On Monday afternoon, activists who had demanded Wolfe’s resignation abruptly demanded that media stop covering their activities on the public campus of the taxpayer-funded university. At the center of those demands was Melissa Click, an assistant professor of mass media within Mizzou’s communications department. In the video below, you can see Click ask for ‘muscle’ to help her bully a Mizzou student into not covering the ongoing mob protests.”

Remember: These “spontaneous” student demonstrations seldom are. Staff and faculty, along with some outside folks, are almost always actually behind them. (this was posted 11/9 ... and will be referenced in a coming post)

Religious differences
Topic: Politics

this one, for obvious resons, has been on my mind a lot lately.  I've mentioned it before so here are more well-written takes on the same, recurring subject which seems to be growing in importance:

THE THEOLOGY OF LIBERALISM: HOW MUCH IS LIBERALISM LIKE A RELIGION?

Almost entirely, particularly for those drink deep all of the SJW/global warming/BLM/BDS* Kool-Aid.

Which comes in stereo these days.

The Religion of Environmentalism

ROGER SIMON ON BEN CARSON AND THE DEMOCRATS’ ‘WAR ON GOD:’

Now, with Carson a frontrunner in national and Iowa polls, not to mention the only Republican tied with Hillary Clinton in a hypothetical matchup, what I recently called, channeling Stalin, the media/Democrat “plot against the doctor” I fully expect to metastasize to a full-on “War on God.”  But — take it from this agnostic — that will be a very risky war because it will be based on the assumption that Carson is wacky in his belief.  He isn’t.  He is to be admired and, in my case, envied.

Read the whole thing.

Related: ABC, NBC Knock ‘Hardline’ Ben Carson on Political Experience; ‘Issue’ ‘He Will Have to Address.’

Funny, I don’t remember this being an issue in 2008 (expect when the MSM-DNC needed to destroy the only person with executive experience in the race, of course.) Perhaps Carson could answer his critics by mystically replying, “I serve as a blank screen, on which people of vastly different political stripes project their own views.”

After all, it wouldn’t be the first time Americans would be “putting a lot of faith in a man they barely know,” to coin a CNN-approved phrase from the conclusion of that election cycle.

Are We Becoming More Polarized?
