New Hollywood Gossips Forum
Daily Gossips from Webmaster:
Sorry, people, it has been more than a week since my
last update, this was due to some personal problems and matters that was needed
to be solved and I was not in the mood to work to the site. Although the is not
yet solved, I have decided to review two more movies that I was intended to
review, on the 8th, just before the conflict began. One is the US movie -
Bruce Almighty and the other being a
Donnie Yen starring and directed HK movie -
Ballistic Kiss. I found the quote from Ballistic Kiss extremely
meaningful and the movie itself as I explained in the review very relevant. I
dun fell like saying much today >_< but I got 4 assignments to do, so I better
go and do it. I dunno when the next update gonna to be, but I will be watching
T3 2morrow. So it could be 2morrow, but I doubt it. Remember all those out
there, no matter how grim your life may seem, there are good things in life,
treasure those that are in front of you, and most importantly - 'BE THE
MIRACLE!' See ya. (Andrew, 16/7/03)

Be the Miracle:
Bruce Almighty
Comedy
genius Jim Carrey is back! Back to his usual self after his try-hard serious
performance in the long and humorless Majestic. When I heard saw the previews of
Bruce Almighty - I knew at once a good comedy may well be on the way. The movie
starts of pretty slow and the laughs did not truly takes off until the 20
minutes mark of the movie. And once it takes off, it is...more...
No one is Innocent:
Ballistic Kiss
'Have you thought over that... what exactly are
you going to do next? I really don't know what I am going to do at this point. I
only know that I am confused. People contradict themselves all the time. Have
you really asked about yourself? if these people that were your friend, whether
they're guilty or innocent? No one is innocent. Look right out there. Everyone
is sleeping now. It seems so...more...
Transporting Shu Qi to Hollywood:
The Transporter
Ever
imagine Hong Kong style action in France, pretty girls, nice cool cars, being
framed, revenge, HK action directors and French producers, sound familiar? Well,
from the same crew that brought you last year hardcore action thriller Jet Li's
Kiss of the Dragon, this summer comes The Transporter, which is directed by HK
action veteran Corey Yuen (The One) and from the makers of the Professional,
French veteran Luc Besson. Looking for an non-stop action and a little romance,
then...more...
Wire-Fu Car Chase:
2 fast 2 Furious
2
Fast 2 Furious has all cool themes - cool cars, pretty girls (well the beach
scene :P), high production values, big budget, cool car chases and a cool rap
score. However all these tend to become the reason of the movie failure. The
opening scene was brilliantly shot through many cool car chase camera angles and
thrills and car chases was well maintain all the way to the half way point of
the movie, and what was intending to be an interesting and cool young adult
movie turns into a cheesy...more...
Mr. Nice Guy:
If You Care...
If
you ever reach the dead end, hope is always around the corner!' is a message
that will stay into my mind for quite a long time. Of all the HK singers/actors,
Eason Chan despite not having the good looks, is without doubt one of the best
actors of the new generation of pop stars. His performance here in If You
Care... is spot on and combining with his singing in the final 10 minutes made
If You Care... an exceptional par above many of its genre. Also starring the
other half of Twins - Gillian Chung (known as Ah Gil) is...more...
Ah Sa is my wife?:
My Wife is 18
I
think I could officially declare Charlene Choi as the cutest and best child
actress in the HK film industry. Well, Charlene is actually 23 years old, but
still she seems more like a 13 year old in the movie My Wife is 18. Charlene
also known as Ah Sa and combining with Ah Gil - they form one of HK's most
successful pair ever as the Twins. Ah Sa is definitely the more lively and
talkative of the two. She is cute, lively, and a face full 13 years old facial
expression, however it is all in a good way. Well, My Wife is 18 is without
doubt not...more...
Jet Li is Kato?:
Black Mask
This year you have watched Spiderman and years ago -
Batsman and on TV and cinemas - Superman and then you were given a movie that
cost the legendary martial arts phenomenal Brandon Lee's life in The Crow, well
if you combine them all - what you get is - the 1998's Hong Kong Sci-Fi Jet Li's
Actioner - Black Mask. Although the movie itself may seem to be a combination of
all these superheroes save the day elements - International Superstar Jet Li
(The One) and Maker Tsui Hark (Time and Tide) provides something different:
Martial Arts. But in spite of all the fuss... the movie itself is definitely
no...more...
Bond Girl Saves the Day:
Die Another Day
On
hearing about the new James Bond movie, Die Another Day, my mind was filled with
the excitement of Goldfinger and the enthralling Goldeneye. But at once leaving
the theatre, I felt the movie was somewhat half-baked despite stunning visual
effects and devastating digital surround sound of gun bullets. The first half
was definitely full of exciting action and stunts, but it reaches the climax and
the 'so-called' most thrilling aircraft ride since Harrison Ford's Air Force
One, made my eyes itchy, drowsy and eventually...more...
Money - Root of All Evil:
30 Million Dollars Rush
In
1987, the beginning of the golden era in HK cinema, every movie that came out
despite being good or bad, has this sense of confidences that would only be made
in that era. It would almost impossible to find a movie bad or good, in the
fashion of Karl Maka's Thirty Million Dollar Rush. The movie itself
is nothing special, in fact, not even up to the usual standard of a Maka's
comedy and no where near the cinematic experiences of Aces Go Places Series,
however as silly as it may be, watching the movie gives you...more...
Fighting for your Own Fate:
Fate Fighter
Yet
another conmen addition to the on-going series. Well, starring the conman
himself - Nick Cheung and along with the pretty Kristy Cheung and a good line of
supporting cast, led by HK veteran Alex To and a hot unknown sexy babe (the girl
hugging Nick and Sam in the above photo) and also rising star Sam Lee.
Personally I though the casting was pretty good and also giving Kristy Cheung a
kinda leading role for the first time. She actually performed with some form of
potential. Well, she was actually more pretty...more...
Kung Fu Fat Gor:
Bulletproof Monk
HK Best Actor alongside Tony Leung Chiu Wai,
the gun god - Chow Yun Fat is back on the big screen after a 2 years absent from
his last epical Oscar-winning Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Chow is beginning
to show his comical side in the latest comic book adaptation movie - Bulletproof
Monk. But what's different in this movie is everyone of the leads knows martial
arts (well, ok, they are just trained for this movie :P) which replaces the
normal John Woo's style gunfire. However, the script is simple and confusing...more...
No Gene For The Human Spirit:
Gattaca
I
remember my English teacher telling us that 'one man's utopia is another
dystopia and the movie Gattaca shows and proves the saying true. Themes are
strong as the story moves slowly from being at a walking pace to later become a
bit of a thriller in the 1920s Film Noir style and in between here and there a
few love scenes to all combine together leading to a terrific emotional ending.
Gattaca was made in 1998 and was proved to be...more...
Go Go Gadgets:
Tuxedo
From
gadgets, cool cars, nice tuxedo, sexy hot girls, evil villains trying to take
over the world, the new action blockbuster Tuxedo, starring International
Martial Arts Superstar Jackie Chan has all the flair of a formulaic James Bond
Movie. So does it work? Well what can go wrong with a mix of comedy, Jackie Chan
style action and a little bit of romance, sounds good? But the bad news for
Chan's fans who are...more...
