With Jackie's career at his
heights, Chan surprised everyone by teaming up with Wong Jing - the bizarre
comedy genius - a move that provide his fans something different, but also
some really mindless entertainment with an almost no-plot movie. Even though
there is so much action in this movie - City Hunter is packed with jokes-kind
of kung-fu than the usual Jackie Chan's movie. Chan actually does an excellent
job here as city hunter who is lecherous, vain, lazy and always on the lookout
for a beautiful woman or a tasty meal. Joey Wong despite being pretty was also
annoying at times, but newcomer Kumiko Goto was the real eye candy. Goto
performance was natural and combining with her fresh looking cute face,
allowing her to put on a scene-stealing performance. Every time she is on
screen she seems to steal the show. The final fight between Chan and Norton
was somewhat disappointing as there is no tension at all. Although it was
actually quite a long fight - about 10 minutes, there was nothing memorable in
it. The extended cameo by HK superstar Leon Lai was cool with his usual stiff
acting of God of Gamblers movies. Overall, City Hunter is one of the most
bizarre action comedy - even more over the top than Jet Li's High Risk - is a
movie that provides mindless entertainment, filled with both sad and good
jokes and continuous action sequence. If you are looking for a few laughs and
a womanizer Jackie Chan then this is a good choice - otherwise - don't worry
about it.
