An exciting action drama with
good character turns from the lead actors, Running Out Of Time became one of
Hong Kong's biggest hits ever, and star Andy Lau won Best Actor at the 2000
Hong Kong Film Awards. To me this is the real Andy Lau and the performance
here is right up to his role in the 2002 hit Infernal Affairs. Here he plays a
very clever and slyly humorous action-crime hero/villain.
Lau Ching Wan also does his very much typical role as smart, good cop, like he
did in Jet Li's Black Mask. Like Internal Affairs the only thing this film
lacks is romance, however the nonstop humor, action, conman-style cop and
robber race glued the viewers from start to finish. Without doubt one of the
best crime/thriller/comedy of the year (2000). As usual action is not the key
in this movie, it is how the director and actors blends into the interesting
storyline and here they all did a more than impressive job. If you like Johnny
To's movies then this is a must, but even if you like HK Cinema this is a
great nighttime movie.
