Although it didn't fare well at
the HK Box office, July Rhapsody was a success in nearly all department -
acting, plot, direction, casting, message. It is good to see Jacky Cheung back
to his best, despite a 8 years layoff acting - since 1995's High Risk. His
acting has matured and his performance here is notable. Anita Mui also display
her usual talents and is not as annoying as in Jackie Chan's Rumble in the
Brox. However, the best of all, is newcomer - Karena Lam - She is young fresh
and a natural talent. The role was born for her. Her acting here shows immense
promise, and also showing glimmers of sweetness kind of beauty. On hearing Lam
winning 2 HK Films award is just not a surprise, because her performance here
show she have great potential to be the next Maggie Cheung. Every scene that
involves Lam keeps the movie going smooth and also fun to watch. Her chemistry
with Jacky although not explained is pretty impressive. Director Ann Hui does
an terrific job here and once again proves she is just one of the best out
here in drama direction. What can I say - just go and watch it!
