I think I could officially
declare Charlene Choi as the cutest and best child actress in the HK film
industry. Well, Charlene is actually 23 years old, but still she seems more
like a 13 year old in the movie My Wife is 18. Charlene also known as Ah Sa
and combining with Ah Gil - they form one of HK's most successful pair ever as
the Twins. Ah Sa is definitely the more lively and talkative of the two. She
is cute, lively, and a face full 13 years old facial expression, however it is
all in a good way. Well, My Wife is 18 is without doubt not a very good movie,
but the main reason to watch it is not for the storyline, as who watches a
Jackie Chan or Jet Li's movie for its story - action ar ma. Well in this case
I watch this movie because of Ar Sa. Ar Sa performance here is no doubt not as
mature as her terrific performance in Funeral March, but this time she
switches the channel to comedy and it works pretty well for me. Also starring
Ekin Cheung, and surprisingly is not not as annoying as he first started. His
acting is now maturing and actually has some sort of screen presence, but the
real scene stealer of the movie is Charlene - herself. Although she is
portraying an 18 year old, she acts and smiles and giggles like a 12-13 year
old. The main problem of this movie is the fact that Ekin Cheung is 30+ and
Charlene is meant to be 18, and along with her underage acting - making a
couple of Cheung and Ar Sa rather unlikely as to more of a brother and sister
relationship. That's not to say the movie was bad, silly and stupid, as any
movie with Charlene saves the day and almost single handedly redeem the whole
movie. Oh ok, by now I think you can tell that I am extremely bias as I like
Ar Sa... haha :P. Oh well, such is life, and after watching My Wife is 18, you
too will think she is cute! :P hahaha (Andrew, 2003)
