In what was to be Leslie Cheung
last film with the news of his death, it is even more devastating to say that
this was one of Leslie's finest performance for quite a while. Ironically he
also played a doctor who becomes suicidal in this movie - Inner Senses. Inner
Senses is without doubt one of the best thrillers to come out of HK in recent
years and the casting and direction was almost pitch-perfect. The story was at
times weird but director surprisingly puts in thrills and chills from
beginning to end. The character development of Karena Lam and Leslie Cheung is
both outstandingly portrayed with Lam again showing great promise to be the
next Maggie Cheung. Her acting was natural and had a very good chemistry with
Leslie. Ironically both Lam last two films featured her with 40+ men - the
sensational July Rhapsody starring Jacky Cheung and now the 46 year old Leslie
Cheung. In watching and knowing now that it is to be Leslie's last film, it
makes the film even more spooky and scary and Cheung portrayal of a suicidal
was so vivid as if it was real. I am really out of words with this movie as
seeing this movie makes me feel and realize why Leslie might have suicide and
personally I am still shock in hearing of the news of his suicide and the lost
of such a talented actor in an already declining HK Cinema industry. If you
want some thrills, shocked at Leslie's death, fans of Leslie, or curious about
who Leslie was, then this movie is a must for you - over wise Inner Senses is
still one of the best ghost/thriller movie to come out of HK in recent years.
