Economics odds an ends
Now Playing: Free Thoughts

OKAY: Let’s Get This Straight: Income Inequality And Poverty Aren’t The Same Thing.

Notice how little we hear about “wealth inequality.” There’s a lot of untaxed wealth in foundations, university endowments, family trusts, etc. A populist who wanted to put Democrats on the spot might propose taxing that. You know, for the common good. Only working stiffs have more income than wealth.

QUOTES OF THE MORNING: BEFORE & AFTER THE 1929 CRASH.

Ive been lax in my early season football postings.  Will try to get back to one or two a week.

My Roughriers got off to a bad start but finally moved off the schnied by thumping Fairfield Christian last night.  Seven Tds, three xp kickers, including a girl.  Tough row to hoe but post season hopes still alive.  The three losses were against tough programs, two of which are significantly bigger schools.  Hopefully the QB situation is resolved an the sophmores have survived their indoctrination under fire.  Next stop?  Bexley.  Riders in a squeaker.

NFL?  Saints look lousy but will get healthy over TB this week.  Saints by 8+.  Packers and Broncos look to be the top but a pissed off Brady may change that.

College top four?  Buckeyes, until they lose, which they might but I dont know when.  Alabama?  Not yet.  Will see what Ole Miss does this weekend ... so #2 goes to the winner of the Bama/Miss game.   #3?  USC?  Not the Gamecocks.  The Trojans.   Not yet.  Beat  Stanford, then we can talk.  TCU?  Not after the squeaker against Minnie Ha Ha.  Georgia?  See Bama/Miss above.  Oklahoma?  November 12 @ TCU may decide.  Georgia Tech?  With THAT schedule?  Which drops us to Notre Dame.  So they get #3.  And #4 goes to whoever rises out of that mess above.  And maybe LSU.

Buckeyes over the Huskies by 30+

Everything is racist
Now Playing: 47 Ronin

John Leo, “Ten Things You Didn’t Know Were Racist.” The list includes these tidbits:

“Baa, Baa Black Sheep” is racist. The nursery rhyme, which dates back to the Middle Ages, is under attack. Some schools and family centers in Scotland, England, and Australia have eliminated the word “black” as racist, and now refer to “rainbow sheep,” “happy sheep,” or “green sheep,” though these new adjectives make no sense at all. . . .

Liking white meat is racist. Writer Ron Rosenbaum said in Slate that racism accounts for the popularity of white-meat turkey over more flavorful dark meat. “White meat turkey has no taste,” he explained. “Despite its superior taste, dark meat has dark undertones for some. Dark meat seems to summon up ancient fears of contamination and miscegenation as opposed to the supposed superior purity of white meat.” . . .

Libertarians are racist. In an interview, testy HBO writer-producer David Simon (The Wire, Treme) severely criticized libertarians and suggested that libertarian rhetoric about “freedom” and “liberty” is just code for racism.

Disagreeing about any of this is, of course, racist. I was told several years ago by a colleague that when I said “let’s call a spade a spade,” it was racist, though of course it refers to a gardening implement (or to some, a suit of cards) and has nothing whatsoever to do with race. But that’s not really the point, is it?

RELATED:  “Sorry, Jeb, ‘Anchor Babies’ is a Slur.”  Because, you know, sometimes the babies are not white.

AND THEN THERES THIS: Hey Liberals, #IStandwithAhmed Isn't Only About Racism. It's About School Zero Tolerance Insanity.

From two years ago?  Still going on?  Yup.  Still going on.

NOT EVEN A SMIDGEN: Lois Lerner Had Another Secret Email Account, Under The Name “Toby Miles.”

WHO IS TOBY MILES? The roots of Lois Lerner’s latest secret email account: “Her use of the mysterious account has prompted speculation into the source of the name. “Toby Miles,” according to a former Lerner colleague, is the name of Lerner’s dog: Toby is the dog’s, and Miles is the surname of Lerner’s husband, Michael Miles. . . .Lerner was not alone in her use of an e-mail alias. Lisa Jackson, the former administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, used the e-mail alias ‘Richard Windsor,’ apparently derived from the name of a dog her family owned while living in Windsor, New Jersey.”

THIS IS CNN: “U.S. stocks poised for gains despite new China fall,” a CNN headline that’s the winner of Orrin Judd’s “Fox Butterfield Award of the Week.”

Preconception much?  What Vox Thinks Tech Nerds Don't Understand About Politics

Another Day, Another Bogus New York Times Attack on Clarence Thomas

ANDREW KLAVAN ON THE FIRST RULE OF AMERICAN MSM NEWS COVERAGE: “Whenever the prejudices and illusions of left-wingers are confirmed by an individual incident, the incident is treated as representative; when those prejudices and illusions are contradicted, the incident is considered an aberration — and treating it as representative is deemed hateful.”

Because, as Jim Treacher sagely observed last year on Twitter, “Modern journalism is all about deciding which facts the public shouldn’t know because they might reflect badly on Democrats.”

NATIONAL REVIEW COLUMNIST APPROVES GWEN IFILL’S “TAKE THAT BIBI” ADMISSION. At the Corner, Jay Nordlinger writes:

I’ve said it a million times: The anchorman of CBS News should attend Democratic fundraisers (as happened). The Supreme Court reporter of the New York Times, a.k.a. the paper of record, should march in abortion-rights rallies (as happened). And PBS news figures should be open partisans.

Yesterday, when Senator Barbara Mikulski declared for the Iran deal, meaning that this deal could not be blocked by the Senate, Gwen Ifill spiked the football. “Take that, Bibi,” she tweeted. Aha! Good one, Gwen!

The PBS ombudsman has written about this matter disapprovingly. I’m not sure I disapprove. What I disapprove of is pretending — the pretending that these news organizations are neutral and dispassionate, instead of on the left.

Nomsayin? Know what I’m saying? It seems so . . . elementary. Let your true colors fly, and we’ll have a good ol’ democratic debate.

Exactly. There’s no such thing as “objectivity,” and news consumers should know about the worldview of journalists and/or Democratic operatives with bylines such Ifill, in order to make informed choices. (Particularly in the case of PBS and NPR, as we’re legally required to partially foot the bill for these networks.) The MSM’s cry of “objectivity” dates back to the 1920s through the end of the 1970s, when limits in technology created a mass American media consisting of just three national radio networks, the forerunners to the three national commercial TV networks, a handful of wire services, and for most large cities, only a couple of newspapers. That media world hasn’t existed for decades.

I thought self-styled “Progressives” didn’t want to live in the 1950s anymore — why rely on an Eisenhower-era trope to dodge responsibility for your statements?

WASHINGTON POST COMPARES COUNTY CLERK KIM DAVIS TO GEORGE WALLACE: To be fair, they’re both Democrats, but in a rare double feature edition of “Name that Party,” you wouldn’t know that from reading the Post’s article.

DOES NPR NOT READ NPR WHEN IT COMES TO GUN VIOLENCE?

Assuming that that second number NPR quotes is accurate: the ‘psychic toll of gun violence’ apparently is worst among people who can’t understand why gun homicide rates keep going down, ‘despite’ the fact that the Left can’t get gun control laws passed. This is not a new problem for the gun control crowd: they’ve been waiting to see gun violence rates rise ever since the ‘assault weapons’ ban expired. Waiting and waiting and waiting.

Hey, that narrative won’t shape itself.

TWO GRAY LADIES IN ONE! “For Labor Day Drivers, Lowest Gasoline Prices in 11 Years,” the New York Times reports today.

Reminder: The New York Times, the Washington Post, NBC, and the Obama administration all consider this to be bad news.

FALSE AND DEFAMATORY: Daily Kos Founder Claims Contributor at Daily Kos Is a ‘Breitbart Writer Arrested for Terrorism.’ “He linked to an article that made no mention of Breitbart. But it did list the publications that this terrorist troll, Joshua Goldberg, wrote for, including… the Daily Kos. . . . Moulitsas then, bizarrely, went on to claim that ‘trying to incite terrorism’ was ‘a conservative thing.’”

Sorry so long.  Lets close with this:  HOLY CTHULHU: Alex stops you from publishing inconsiderate content: Weirdly, and apparently is this bullsh*t piece of Marxist leftist trash really meant to be taken seriously? IS a perfectly politically correct sentence.  As you can imagine, it sets my mind at rest.

Hillary’s email firm was run from a loft apartment with its servers in the BATHROOM, raising new questions over security of sensitive messages she held.

#COVERUP: Clinton aides’ BlackBerrys likely destroyed.

DON’T BLAME ME, BLAME THE WHOLE DAMN SYSTEM: Hillary’s latest defense: What is classified information, anyway? Its moving pretty fast.  This was from about two weeks ago.  Trying to catch up!

OOPS: Former Top Hillary Aide Accidentally Tells The Truth About Libya War:

It takes a tough person, and a tough nation, to accept the reality of limited power. It is so much easier to pound our chests and declare that the United States bestrides the world like a colossus and should be able to dictate any outcome it wants. That is no longer true, if it ever were. We found that out the hard way by launching a war in Iraq that we could not win. By prolonging a war in Afghanistan in ways that often made the domestic political situation worse rather than better. By toppling a government in Libya without any idea of what might come next.

Hillary 2016: Because Poor Judgment Is Still Judgment.

PROOF IN THE PUDDING: Hillary’s Air Gap Problem. The very fact that TOP SECRET information made it to Hillary’s email shows a crime was committed.

DRIP, DRIP: Email timeline suggests second server may exist.

DOES HILLARY CLINTON THINK BILL CLINTON’S PRESIDENCY WAS A DISASTER? That’s a quite a needle she’s going to have to thread — appealing to moderate voters by running on the happy fun time memories of the 1990s, while denouncing all of her husband’s relatively centrist policies that helped make them happen, in order to placate her hard left base.
