Say it ain't so, Joe
Topic: Politics

Plugs Biden is at it again and this time it's disgusting.  There's no other way to put it.  Ad the only thing more disgusting than what he's said is his fellow Donks and MSM (but I repeat myself) defending him by saying "what he said was ..." and then NOT saying WHAT HE SAID!

If you missed it, here's take one - keep in mind the Federal funding he's discussing is a one year program:

Well let me tell you, it’s not temporary when that 911 call comes in an a woman’s being raped if a cop shows up in time to prevent the rape, it’s not temporary to that woman. It’s not temporary to the guy whose store is being held up and there’s a gun pointed at his head, if a cop shows up and he’s not killed. That’s not temporary to that store owner. Give me a break! Temporary! I wished these guys who thought it’s temporary, I wish they had some notion what it’s like to be on the other side of a gun, or a 200-pound man standing over you and telling you to submit. Folks, it matters! It matters!

Then we have take two: When pressed, Biden defended his comments, explaining that “all crime will continue to rise” if Republicans don’t pass the bill in question.

Take Three?  You knew Plugs would give us one: Vice President Joe Biden lashed out at Human Events’ Jason Mattera when Mattera asked Biden if he regretted threatening Americans with an increase in “rapes” if the GOP didn’t pass the jobs bill.

Biden did not finish the story and say that the reason the jobs bill didn’t pass in the Senate was due to a lack of Democratic support. The bigger question is why the majority party in the Senate can’t keep it together to pass a bill.

In the video, Biden squares up to Mattera and growls “Let’s get it straight, guy, don’t screw with me.” It’s rude, condescending, and unbecoming for the office of the Vice Presidency.

OK, that's what HE said.  So here are a couple interesting (IMHO) observations:

1.   The very first question at the next Solyndra hearing should be, ‘How many rapes could Democrats have prevented by giving that $535 million to cops instead?’

2.  Putting aside the crude, inflammatory nature of his rhetoric, it turns out that Biden’s numbers are incorrect. According to statistics compiled by the FBI, the figures cited by the vice president are slightly off, but not egregiously so, when it comes to the size of the police force and the murder rate in Flint. According to the FBI data, the city employed 201 police officers in 2008 and 132 officers in 2010. There were 32 reported murders in 2008, which rose to 53 in 2010. With respect to the rape figures, however, Biden is way off. FBI data show that the incidence of reported forcible rapes actually dropped, with 103 rapes reported in 2008, but just 92 in 2010. Hardly the 150 percent increase Biden cited.

3.  Joe, how many rapes are acceptable?  Zero?  Does everybody get their own cop? Is that law enforcements job now?  Are you SURE you wanna go down this road?

4.  Can't you just see the rapists and arsonsts sitting around their TVs and radios friday night, listening to the vote, knowing their "jobs" were on the line?!!

5.

The more President Obama and the once-again-unhinged Vice President Biden do their campaign stops, alleging that congressional failure to borrow hundreds of millions of dollars more for states and the federal government to hire more workers equates to dirty air and water, and more rapes and hold-ups, the sense of utter unreality grows. Between January 2009 and January 2011, Obama and his Democratic Congress did whatever they wished, whether creating Obamacare, funding crony capitalists like the Solyndra bunch (“millions of green jobs”), or borrowing over $4 trillion in various stimuli. Finally, the voters had enough of the borrowing, and so voted dozens of Democrats out of Congress in the largest midterm rebuke since 1938. And yet the administration logic persists that if you reflect the anguish of the voters, and if you are reluctant to borrow hundreds of billions more when prior trillions in new debt have led to about zero growth, 9.1 percent unemployment, a worse housing market, the greatest drop in the standard of living in any comparable three-year period, and price hikes in food and fuel, then you are a polluting abettor of rape and thuggery.

A question for tPOTUS from Peter Karsinow:

In a December, 2009 interview with Oprah Winfrey, you graded your own job performance as “a good, solid B+.” You added that “if I get health care passed, we tip into A-.” Obamacare has since passed.

  • The ‘”misery index” today is at its highest level in 28 years.
  • The unemployment rate has been above 9 percent for 27 of the last 29 months.
  • Long-term unemployment is at its highest level in more than 70 years.
  • The national debt is $14.8 trillion — nearly $5 trillion more than four years ago.
  • The federal deficit is $1.3 trillion — more than eight times higher than four years ago.
  • Federal spending is $3.57 trillion — nearly $1 trillion more than four years ago.
  • The United States’ credit rating has been downgraded for the first time in history.
  • You spent $814 billion on a stimulus program so unemployment wouldn’t rise above 8 percent and would drop to 6.5 percent by today. Since then, unemployment has never dropped below 8 percent and is 9.1 percent today.
  • A record 45 million Americans (nearly one in seven) use the food-stamp program — 20 million more than four years ago.
  • A record 3.8 million foreclosures were filed last year.
  • Seventy-seven percent of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track.

In an interview with Jake Tapper a few days ago, you didn’t give yourself a specific grade but stated that you “believe all the choices we’ve made have been the right ones.” Is it correct to assume, then, that you were actually shooting for the above results?

SEEN ON FACEBOOK: “The social contract exists so that everyone doesn’t have to squat in the dust holding a spear to protect his woman and his meat all day every day. It does not exist so that the government can take your spear, your meat, and your woman because it knows better what to do with them.”

NCAA top .... four or five
Topic: Football

The Big 10/12 have kind of taken themselves out of the hunt.

1.  Alabama.  LSU is good, but not good enough to win in Tuscaloosa.

2.  Boise State.  THIS is the year.

3.  Stanford.  Or are they just Lucky?

4.  Newbie Alert: Okie State.

Best of the rest:  LSU, Oregon, Oklahoma,  Michigan.

Wisconsin's strength of schedule is too low.  Texas A&M's is too high (best 2 loss team in the country.)

Buckeyes can climb back into the top 25 with a win next week.

Riiiiight.

Friday Fitness bits and pieces
Topic: Running

It's that time of year  changing scenery.  Some nice Halloween decorations going up in the neighborhood.  I LOVE that.   And the leaves are about done.  We've had 2-3 days of cold wet wind and that pretty much did 'em in but boy for a week to ten days they were VERY nice.  And not a problem here.

See, leaves strewn over a cracked, uneven sidewalk are a REAL autumn hazard for a runner.  But fortunately here we have mostly smooth sidewalks AND the neighbors tend to rake and keep them from "strewing."  Makes for a VERY pleasant and safe season.

Three beats vs Two beats.  Realized this week that I'm jumping back and forth  between a three beat rhythm and a two beater.  Three is preferable but I just don't have the CPS to swing it yet for a full three miles.  On a better note I'm now doing <29 with ease and the top HR during those runs has slipped to about 160.

Tried some speed work today.  Wanted 5-7x400 9n 1:30-1:45.  Went 1:32, 1:32, 1:34 and on the 4th my left Achilles started a shotting pain so I coasted to a finish (1:40) and called it a day.  A nice brisk reminder of reality on a nice brisk day.

Why buy the cow ...
Topic: Economics

when you can get the milk for free.  Ever hear that.  No longer applies in some states.  Oh you might GET the milk for free, but you can't DRINK it.

King Prawn cites this over at Ricochet.com

Raw milk is a staple of hippie diets and liberal angst. There are great arguments for and against the marketing of raw milk, but when it comes to a person's right to consume raw milk from his own cow such a right does not exist, at least according to a Wisconsin judge. In fact, the judge stated in his decision on a clarification motion that "no, Plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to own and use a dairy cow or a dairy herd." Where one stands on raw milk seems to me irrelevant to the question of whether or not the state can forbid the owning of benign property like a cow. This may be one issue on which even I could take up my bongos.

Violence from the left

I have five posts bubbling around in my head and two are "VFTL" related, so I'll skip Plugs Biden's speech until tomorrow and give you the "it's not theft/rape - it's reeeeeeee-distribution

Teacher Choked, Women Attacked at #OccupyOakland: It’s ‘Lord of the Flies’ Among Anarchists, Drug Dealers  I showed "Lord of the Flies to my ethicsclass this week - the point was NOT missed.  Sadly I showed the 90's version.  Going back to the 63 version.

IS THE #OCCUPYWALLSTREET MOVEMENT POTENTIALLY VIOLENT? “One recalls the violence that has been associated with some of the far left’s economic protests: Toronto 2010 G8/G20 meeting; Seattle 1999 WTO; Vancouver 2010 Olympics; London 2009 G20; Rome 2001 G8. One reflects that many of these OWSers seem to embrace a 60s nostalgia. One ponders 60s groups like the Weather Underground (and Obama buddy Bill Ayers). And one wonders.

“OCCUPY BOSTON” MARRED BY VIOLENCE. Best quote:

Demonstrator Andrew Warner, 36, said homeless people are hijacking tents, getting drunk, “passing out” and stealing.

“It’s turning into us against them,” Warner said. “They come in here and they’re looking at it as a way of getting a free meal and a place to crash, which is totally fine, but they don’t bring anything to the table at all. It gets really frustrating.”

Really? They just mooch and loot? Do tell. (Full story here).

MICKEY KAUS: Doubling Down On Scorn: More On Obama’s “Disgusted Headmaster” Schtick.  “Again, if you can’t cut back the government bureaucracy in good times (because there is enough tax money and we have ‘unmet needs,’ etc.) and you can’t cut it in bad times (because we have to preserve those jobs as ‘stimulus’) when does the government stop growing? Has Obama even attempted to answer this concern?”
