New Rule: Never watch a horror movie based on a video game. Todays entry is Silent Hill. Interesting cast but not notable. Some interesting special effects. But a sagging story tries to hold it together and just can't. I watch these so you don't have to. Don't.

No real shake up last week except Alabama IS for real and Arkansas is better than I thought. While Luck is quite a QB Oregon is STILL one of my top two.
1. Alabama @ SC
2. Oregon @ WSU
3. Boise State vs Toledo
4. Ohio State vs Hosers
5. One loss wonders .... Florida, Stanford, State University of Florida at Coral Gables.
Only Bama facing a ranked team and the 'Cocks have NO idea!

Just what kind of divisive, non-unifying, non-post-partisan, ego-riding foolis in our White House?
A Republican majority in Congress would mean “hand-to-hand combat” on Capitol Hill for the next two years, threatening policies Democrats have enacted to stabilize the economy, President Obama warned Wednesday.
Speaking on Michael Baisden’s syndicated radio show, Obama also made a direct appeal to African Americans about the importance of the November vote, even though he’s not on the ballot himself. … “Everybody in the barbershops, the beauty shops, and at work — everybody’s got to understand: This is a huge election; if we turn out in strong numbers, then we will do fine. If we do not, if we are depressed and decide, well, you know, Barack’s not running right now, so I’m just going to stay home, then I’m going to have my hands full up here on Capitol Hill.”
Oh, it’s all about him, isn’t it? Is the president suggesting that the only reason African Americans would bother to vote would be to support him? Isn’t that rather a crappy subtext coming from any president?

Aniother silly entry, but watchable. King of the Zombies (1941). Mantan Moreland had already made his bones doing soe GREAT work in the Charlie Chan series and gets all the laughs here. The role of Dr. Victor Sangre was designed for Bela Lugosi. When he became unavailable, furious negotiations ensued to obtain Peter Lorre for the part, but a deal could not be reached. Veteran character actor Henry Victor was signed just prior to the date of filming. Produced and released prior to Pearl Harbor, the film oddly dances around blatant references to Nazi Germany. While the villain is decidedly Germanic, radio traffic is spoken in German and there's spoken references to spying, neither Germany or Nazis are ever overtly mentioned. The plot, described in the presskit describes the evil Dr. Sangre as "a secret agent for a European government."
Bottom line: King Of The Zombies is an interesting MYSTERY film with some really funny scenes.

Four games to go, and three of WJ's final opponents are tough. Stil third in the region. Only North Union is really solid. Everybody else is either a pretender or has some tough "elimination" games left.
This week it's 0-6 Millersport. 48 points. We'll get points from 'Berg over Cedarville and at MOST two other games. That's optimistic. If the playoffs were today we'd be playing Versailles @ WJ. After losing to them 2-3 times "up there" it'll be nice to get 'em at Kile Field.

THIS one was fun. Frankenstein. DOZEN'S of these. And we'll be visiting the classic in a few days. But for NOW .... here's the original. From 1910 and the Edison Company. Lost untl the mid 70's and only 16 minutes long. The narrative in Frankenstein is crushingly simple: man goes to college, creates a monster, which in the end can't live with its evil self. The trick shot creation scenes hold up well, less so Frankenstein's excited peeping in at it happening through a tiny trap window. The final mirror scene was a pleasant surprise, and the "SFX" used to create the monster could still be used to good effect today.

Once you see the vampires in sunscreen and sombreros, you will know exactly what kind of movie this is. And the use of synthetic blood as a plot device predates True Blood by a decade. A little slow toward the end this is still a watchable movie, has stood the test of time. Not an "all time great" but definately enjoyable as a change of pace.
