I had a friend who was a quad.  He HATED Christopher Reeve because Reeve was chasing what my friend Dave believed to be dead end solutions to spinal cord rejuvenation.  It was then that I tought myself about pluripotent stem cells.  I've always opposed embryonic stem cell research for several reason, most of which many leftists can't even begin to understand. 

 And as research was done and results rolled in it became obvious to themost casual observer that pluripotent stem cells from adults were yielding more positive results then embryonic stem cells.  And now Dr. Yamanaka has won the Noble Prize for science for his invention of INDUCED psc's.  

Here's the deal.  We have two lines of research to pursue.  One line involves killing puppies and kittens.  The other doesn't, and yields more positive results.  Even assuming ab arguendo you don't  care about kittens and puppies, doesn't it make more sense to pursue the non-lethal research?  And if you're taking money from the public to FUND the research and you know half the people you're taking the money from really LIKE kittens and puppies doesn't it make it even MORE likely you should pursue the non-lethal research?

Go tell the leftists.

Rarely do i get to combie two of my loves into one post, but this one does it.  Maybe MORE than two!

1.  Coldwater.  Class of the state

2.  Covington.  They're in.  To get a home game they'll need to beat National Trail  this week.

3.  Summit Country Day.  In.  A win over Clark Montessori w9 should give them a home slot

4.  Dayton Christian.  In.  Last 2 games will decide how in they are.  IMHO they should be a top 4 team.

5.  Now it starts getting sticky.  WL-S.  BIG win over Jamestown Greenview last night makes them look for real.  They'll be getting nothing the next two weeks and may well need a win over Triad week 10 to make it.  

6.  Roughriders slide up to 6 this week.  Next weeks game vs 7-0 D2 Licking Heights is HUGE.  Should be Central O's game of the week.  A win there should give WJ a home game.  A loss will mean the Liberty Union game week 9 will be for the bid.  Feast or famine.  Common opponents:  Harvest Prep (WJ +32, LH  +22), Grandview (WJ +!8, LH +27), Millersport (WJ +60, LH +61)*.  Should be one hell of a game.

7.  Versailles.  Big win over Maria Stein.  That's one.  Three tough games on the schedule.  If they can win two of 'em I'll give em a nod.  Otherwise, they're pretenders.

8.  Triad.  Playoffs start next week for them.  One big win in the books.  Will need two more to be legit.  Week 9 is Southeastern.  Week 10 is WL-S.  They'll need 'em both.

9.  National Trail.  Plays #2 Covington this week.  Make or break.

10.  Anna.  Still don't like em.  Don't deserve a spot but they need to be Maria Stein to have a shot.

Still in the running for the second four:  Dixie, Paint Valley (that tie KILLS me), Madison Plains (must beat McClain, not gonna happen), Mariemont (math don't lie) and a few others who are facing must win situations.

  Millersport has lost its last 5 by a combined 270-7.  They should drop the sport and save the mony.

Two odd movies made my list this year due to my chosen methodology.

First up is an oldie that I'd hoped would be a goodie.  Lost Boys.  Nope.  Doesn't stand up to the test of time.  Jason Patric.  The Coreys .  Since we had Jack's dad earlier in the week, tonight we get Jack Bauer. Edward Herrmannand the only reason to watch this movie: Jami Gertz.

This one is ok every 10-12 years just to see the AWEFUL 80's style, and to remember that it isn't worth watching again for another 10-12 years.

The second was ALSO a dissabpointment.  Ringu.  The ORIGINAL upon which The Ring is based.  I'm usually a BIG proponent of "the remake isn't as good" but in this case - The Ring is better.  Don't bother.

This is a huge gaffe on Vice President Joe Biden's part. Instead of using the dishonest language of "letting the Bush tax cuts expire," Biden finally comes straight out and tells the truth:

BIDEN: You know the phrase they always use? "Obama and Biden want to raise taxes by a trillion dollars." Guess what? Yes we do, in one regard. We want to let that trillion dollar tax cut expire so the middle class doesn’t have to bare the burden of all that money going to the super wealthy.

My Saints have 2 games against miserable TB and CAR teams .... bump em to 5-4.  They might be able to claw their way back into the chase.

No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 all losing on the same day…

This is the fourth time that the AP’s No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 teams all lost on the same day. It last occurred in 2002, when No. 3 Virginia Tech, No. 4 Notre Dame, and No. 5 Georgia all lost on November 2nd, 2002.

What a coincidence that a No. 5 Georgia team would once again fall with the No. 3 and No. 4 teams on the same day.

No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 all losing on the same day…

On January 1st, 1966, No. 1 Michigan St., No. 2 Arkansas, and No. 3 Nebraska all lost their bowl games. It’s the only time that the AP’s top 3 teams all lost on the same day.

Speaking of the mighty falling, what in the name of Sam Hill was Notre Dame thinking?

So what shold the top five look like now?

1.  Alabama.  Still.  And they should run the table.

2.  South Carolina.   Will the pollsters start giving them some love now?

3.  Oregon, but just barely.  Best of the west?  Shoud get a shot at the SEC winner in the title game.

4.  Notre Dame.  Seriously.  Decent schedule.  

5.  Texas A&M would get this slot if it hadn't lost so we'll give it to another SEC team - Florida, who has beaten two top 25 teams and plays one of the toughest schedules in te country among the top  25.  Stanford and that school up north play pretty tough as well.

Rounding out my top 10 will be the one-loss teams Texas A&M,  ASU, Texas, LSU, and Oklahoma.  Stanford and USC will make the Pac 10 a mess.  And OSU will run the table here in the midwest.  I have the Buckeyes at 14 currently

5. The Bush tax cuts caused the recession/deficit. This is what Obama means when he warns voters about the "policies of the past." But the recession was triggered by the subprime mortgage crisis, in which Democrat policies going back to Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter were major factors. In fact, after 2005, during the height of the Bush expansion (2002-6), tax revenues were up from their pre-tax levels. And after 2003, deficits declined until the recession--and the return of Democrats, and their high-spending ways, to positions of power.

4. Obama stopped a second Great Depression. The worst was over when Obama took office, and the rebound was under way--until Obama stopped it with the heavy hand of Obamacare and other interventions. The stimulus failed, the auto bailout was a wash, "green" jobs sputtered, and Obama's enormous debts created new economic threats. Those sectors of the economy that are performing best--such as the booming shale natural gas and domestic oil industries are those in which Obama has been unable to intrude very far. (Yet.)

3. A slow recovery was inevitable. Well, yes, if you consider that we elected a left-wing Democrat who wanted to "spread the wealth around" rather than focusing on jobs and economic growth. But the jury is still out on whether financial collapses are followed by slow recoveries. And one thing is clear: the Obama administration predicted rapid economic growth, including an unemployment rate that would not rise above 8% with Obama's policies. The Obama campaign only adopted its new line once its record of failure had become clear.

2. Obama's policies are working. The only one President Obama dares mention is the auto bailout--which is working so well that General Motors is laying off thousands of workers and the government refuses to sell its shares lest it absorb a massive loss. Meanwhile, the non-union workers who were cheated out of their pensions while Obama gave the unions a big piece of the pie before sending the company to bankruptcy court may beg to differ. Household incomes have dropped, joblessness is alarming, dependence on government is increasing.

1. Nobody could have done better. This is the line that Clinton--who certainly did better--is being wheeled out to promote, though he knows the truth. No recovery from a deep recession has even been this weak, or this slow. In fact, nearly everyone has done better than Obama since the Second World War. With all the positive spin on bad economic data he could possibly have hoped for, with a (now disbanded) dream team of economic advisers, Obama still could not make the right choices. The truth is that no one could have done worse.
