Name: "Phill"Criterion should try and get the three hour cut of The Black Dahlia to be distributed on streaming and disc. Ellroy referred to the three hour cut as masterpiece. Instead we got a great looking film that was disappointing.

Armond's new review of the final Godard film mentions that Godard himself possibly mentions or talks about De Palma in it!
https://www.nationalreview.com/2023/09/godards-final-s-o-s/
The full reference:
"Godard’s growly, fragile voice-over references Belgian author Charles Plisnier’s novel False Passports, doing a film adaptation titled Carlotta that would divert from the style of Marcel Carné (Daybreak, Children of Paradise) and Brian De Palma (The Fury, Femme Fatale) in order to address Plisnier’s “political and revolutionary love affairs."
The choice of words is a little tough to interpret. It could either mean "divert" as in move away from that style, or the opposite: branch off from that style.
I guess we won't know until we see it for ourselves, which should be pretty soon!
Either way I'm sure De Palma will be thrilled to be recognized by his biggest influence in his ultimate work. Being namedropped by your hero - is there any better achievement in life?

In fact, Godard mentioned De Palma in a Rolling Stone interview in 1980 - Armond White is aware that Godard thought highly of THE FURY, which may or may not be why White mentions that one here. De Palma is surely aware of this interview, as well - he had been interviewed in the magazine a few weeks earlier about DRESSED TO KILL, and this same issue has letter writers hating or loving that film (there's never any in-between with opinions on DTK, haha).
I posted clips from the Godard interview here:

Name: "palisades"Oh nice. I guess we'll see if Godard adds anything more about his style or even uses clips from his films, which he sometimes likes to do.
