Still catching up from last month
Topic: misc

“THE SILENT MAJORITY:” “I’ve suggested before that 2016 is beginning to look more and more like 1968,” Bill Kristol writes at the Weekly Standard. “This is true in terms of the presidential contests—on the Democratic side, Bernie Sanders is Eugene McCarthy, Hillary Clinton is Lyndon Johnson, Joe Biden will be Hubert Humphrey, and (the big question!) Elizabeth Warren could be Bobby Kennedy; and on the Republican side, where Donald Trump is ‘a kind of cartoon version of Richard Nixon.’”

IS IT 1968 AGAIN? CRIME RISING “UNEXPECTEDLY:” How bad is it? So bad that as Steve Hayward writes at Power Line, even the New York Times has noticed – and of course, the Times passage that Steve quotes listing the cities of Baltimore, New Orleans, Washington DC and St. Louis is a classic “Name that Party” moment.

I was about to make a cheap Fox Butterfield joke goofing on his series of unintentionally hilarious late-1990s Times headlines culminating in “Number in Prison Grows Despite Crime Reduction” from 2000, but it’s worth noting that Hillary is openly running against all of her husband’s successful law and order related policies of the 1990s.

an the Kentucky Miracle - another donk ignoring the law:

BUT THE MESSAGE WILL SOON BE FORGOTTEN: “The Kentucky Miracle: Kim Davis Teaches Liberals to Value the Rule of Law.”

Nonsense — as impeached Federal judge, Democrat Rep. and Florida Man Alcee Hastings said about Obamacare in 2010, “There ain’t no rules here, we’re trying to accomplish something…. All this talk about rules, when the deal goes down, we make ‘em up as we go along.”

From Lois Lerner to Obama’s arrests of multiple video makers to Hillary’s “badass” illegal email server, Hastings’ quote neatly sums up the events of the last eight years

DAVID HARSANYI: Remember the Rule Of Law Is Only Sacred When It Furthers a Liberal Value. “As far as I can tell, there are only three unassailable constitutional rights left in the United States: the right not to be ‘discriminated’ against, the right to have an abortion and the right to have a gay marriage. In the eyes of liberals, nothing—not the freedom of association or religion or anything else mentioned in the First Amendment or Second Amendment—will ever supersede these consecrated rights.”

An oldie but a goodie .... from Tod Browning the 1932 classic Freaks.  Read some of the articles on the cast.  Break your heart.  If you saw American Horror Story last season you should see this .... its the tribute.  #19 on the users list.  I only give it 73 out of 100 as it is kind of stilted and dated

Planned Parenthood roundup II
Now Playing: Buckeyes v Hoosiers
Topic: Science

NINTH PLANNED PARENTHOOD VIDEO: BABY PARTS VENDOR PAYS OFF CLINICS: And sometimes fully intact fetuses “just fell out,” implying they were born alive.

Keeping the Spotlight on Planned Parenthood

10TH PLANNED PARENTHOOD VIDEO: FRESH HEARTS, EYES AND GONADS FOR SALE: “Certainly, everything we provide — oh, gonads! Oh my God, gonads. Everything we provide is fresh.”

Pro Tip: if you’re using a line that sounds like it could be dialogue out of The Silence of the Lambs, you might want to consider if perhaps, you might be working for the bad guys.

FIORINA POPS THE LIBERAL BUBBLE: “It has been impossible to miss the shift in tone among liberals …  Progressive friend:  She lied during the debate.  Me:  How?  PF:  Those videos were edited.  Me:  So Michael Moore lies?  And Sixty Minutes?  And John Stewart?

CALLING IT LIKE IT IS: S.E. Cupp, “Democrats: The Party of Abortion, Not the Party of Women.”

Updated: Read THREE (and one fake!) of the Most Embarrassing Hillary Clinton Emails Ever!

WHO IS TAKING THEM? ‘Hillary for Prison’ signs keep getting stolen in the Hamptons.

Screen Shot 2015-09-01 at 8.28.45 AM

“I AM NOT AN EMAIL CROOK!” The server fracas isn’t Watergate, yet, but the Democratic front-runner is starting to sound a little like Richard Nixon. More than a little, I’d say.

THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE. SHE EXPLICITLY DENIED DOING THIS. Washington Post: Clinton Used Private Server To Send And Receive Classified Emails.

NOTHING AT ALL SUSPICIOUS HERE: Clintons personally paid State Department staffer to maintain server. “That State Department staffer, Bryan Pagliano, told a congressional committee this week that he would invoke his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination instead of testifying about the setup.”

Hillary’s spin: Just trying to save the taxpayers money!

ANDREA MITCHELL: I WAS AFRAID CLINTON WOULD CUT OFF OUR INTERVIEW IF I ASKED TOO MANY EMAIL QUESTIONS.

Ahh, decisions, decisions: Hillary unclipping her lavaliere and storming off the set while yelling curses and incantations against Mitchell would make for awesome television, but would redeem Mitchell’s underwater reputation with “the wrong people,” and more importantly, would likely destroy or severely damage Hillary’s election chances.

Hillary doesn’t have an (R) after her name, so best to take one for the team and pull your punches, right Andrea?

I DON’T WANT AN APOLOGY, I WANT AN INDICTMENT: “So Hillary Clinton mumbled some kind of apology yesterday. . . . This raises the question: Who gives a rat’s ass? Were you demanding an apology from Hillary Clinton? I wasn’t. I wanted the facts. And those are still in short supply.”

SORRY FOR WHAT, HILLARY? Ron Fournier’s National Journal piece excoriates Hillary Clinton for her non-apologetic “apology”:

CULTURE OF CORRUPTION: The Huma Files: Feds investigated top Hillary Clinton aide for embezzlement.

SO, BASICALLY, A METAPHOR FOR HILLARY’S CAMPAIGN: “Seventy years ago, a farmer beheaded a chicken in Colorado, and it refused to die. Mike, as the bird became known, survived for 18 months and became famous. But how did he live without a head for so long….”

WELL, MAYBE JUST WITH A CLOTH: Tech company: No indication that Clinton’s e-mail server was ‘wiped.’

Ruling out the boss: TOP HILLARY CLINTON ADVISER SAYS NEXT PRESIDENT NEEDS TO ‘UNDERSTAND’ CYBER SECURITY.

JIM TREACHER: “Listen to the tone of Hillary Clinton’s voice when she was asked about this during the ’08 campaign. You’d think Obama had been accused of molesting children. What’s with the strident, almost panicky insistence that he’s not a Muslim, something he has every right to be as an American?”

Roughriders THUMPEd former rival C-bus Academy last night.  Almost 500 yards on the ground.  Up to 16th.  Four losses to teams a combined 21-3.  5-1 Grandview next week.  CA currently a quality win.  This is a pretty good 2-4 team but G-view may be a must win.

Colleges:  SEC (Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, LSU), Ohio State, Clemson and UCLA.   The loss is killing USC.  The schedule is killing Baylor and West Virginia.  Notre dame might climb back in with a win this week.

NFL:  Patriots v Broncos.  Packers v Seahawks.  Yes.  Seattle.  And my Saints will lose again, this time to the Cowgirls.  But it shoul be <6.

Blogger Q&A: Who’s On Your Directors’ Mount Rushmore?  Hitchcock ... Ford ... Kirusawa ... Lean

Now, on with the OTHER stuff ... beginning with the silent classic Nosferatu.  A good way to start the month, so we can see what WAS scary an how far weve come.  80/100.  2000s Shador of the Vampire is right there with it .... interesting companion piece.

Suspiria.  One of thiers that I hadnt seen in a couple years.  Glad I rewatched. It has a better feel to it these days, but I still moved it down a tad.  91/100.

all three Italian Giallo films.

Well start with the new one.  Bay of Blood by Mario Bava. Very representative of the type.  Which mean what?  Accoring to wikipedia: In English-speaking countries, however, the term "giallo" is used to refer to a particular style of Italian-produced murder mystery film which often includes elements of horror fiction and eroticism (similar to the French fantastique genre). The genre began in the mid-to-late 1960s, peaked in popularity during the 1970s, and subsequently declined over the next few decades (though some examples continue to be produced). It has been considered to be a predecessor to and significant influence on, the later American slasher film genre.

I rate it 1382 ... 82 out of 100.   Coming in at the same score about 100 places higher is Opera.  The shot of a woman being shot through the head by a bullet passing through a keyhole is fascinating.  This one was 20th on my list but should drop a bit and notmake the cut next year.

Third is the classic Suspiria .... GREAT score .... GREAT use of color.  Argento at his best.  Cracks my top 1000 and gets a 90 out of 100 .... was 11th on the users list

A threefer of October movies
Topic: Movies
First this link: Blogger Q&A: What’s Your Favorite Lesser-Known Horror Film?  Guess it depends on how one defines lesser-known, as well as horror film.  Im a fan of

The Mummy's Curse 1944, 96/100 but thats not much of an unknown.  So lets go with

The Devil's Carnival 2012, 95/100.  Now THATs an unknown horror musical!

and now for two more:

Stardust:  M Pfiefer, and some other really good really pretty people.  For my $$$ as good as Princess Bride.  That one was from my list.  97/100

From the unseen list we have the REMAKE of Willard.  Crispin Glover overacting .... still.  R Lee Earney.  A couple resonably attractive women.  Glad I watched but probably wont make the cut next year.  38 out of 100

October movies
Now Playing: The Libertarian Moment
Topic: Movies

Restaring this months posts as the show an other exigent cirumstances intervened.  Methodology for 2015:  I pulled the top 20 horror flicks from Flickchart ... Mine, the general users, and the top 10 unseen.  Then I threw in a handful of seasonal favorites and convenient opportunities.

Well begin with the House on Haunte Hill.  32 on my list, 56 over all.  Makes the list because I watche it with friends at thier request and it isnt aweful, all things considered.  Of course Im talking about the 1959 William Castle/Vincent Price classic.

From an IMdb review:   Classic horror film with the perfect mixture of thrills and laughs.   For my money this here is one of the best horror films of the decade and it's without question one of the most fun. The story itself is pretty simple but Castle and Price go all out and really deliver a memorable movie that has several nice thrills and a great atmosphere that can't be matched by too many films from this era. I think the screenplay offers all five guests plenty of growth and we really start to care for all of them. Price and his wife (Carol Ohmart) have their characters perfectly built up as well during a wonderful sequence where we see and hear how much the two hate one another.   The supporting cast is very good as well with Richard Long, Alan Marshal, Elisha Cook, Julie Mitchum and Carolyn Craig turning in fine work. Castle uses this marvelous house to the perfect effect as there's enough atmosphere here for two films. The second time we see the first "ghost" always gets a good jump out of those seeing the film for the first time and the end, while not believable, still works quite well.
