How to stop the "Do you Want To Close Your Connection?" prompt when you close your browser
Right-click in the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop and choose Properties. On the Connections tab of the Internet Properties dialog box, make sure your connection is highlighted, then click Settings. Under the Dial-Up Settings category, click Advanced. Remove the checkmark from the boxes titled Disconnect if idle for "XX" minutes and Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed.
Import/Export Favorites and Cookies
You can import or export your Favorites and Cookies to another browser or file in IE5. Select File from the Menu Bar, then choose Import and Export.and follow the instructions on the Import/Export Wizard.
AutoSearch
To use IE5's Autosearch feature, just type your Keywords in the Address Bar, and press Enter on your keyboard. Internet Explorer will then connect to the AutoSearch page at MSN.
Disabling AutoComplete for Passwords & Forms
Once you have saved a password on a Web page with the AutoComplete feature turned on, AutoComplete will give you a drop-down box to choose from each time you return to the Web page, even if you subsequently turn the feature off. To disable AutoComplete for Passwords, click Tools on the Menu Bar, then menu, click Internet Options. On the Content tab, click AutoComplete, then uncheck the Use AutoComplete for User names and passwords on forms. Click Clear Passwords to clear all stored passwords.
Internet Explorer Repair Tool
Internet Explorer 5 includes a new repair tool for diagnosing and fixing some of its problems. To access the tool, click Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. On the Install/Uninstall tab, highlight Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools, then click Add/Remove. Click the Repair Internet Explorer option, then click OK. Note: this option is not available with Windows98 Second Edition.

Open Link in New Window
If you want to go to a link but don't want to leave the site you're at, right-click on the link and choose Open in New Window. Cancel out of the window to return to your previous page.
Faster Open Link in New Window
Hold down the Shift key which you click any link and a new browser window pops up.
Hide the Links and other Folders in Favorites
The Links Folder in your Favorites Folder cannot be deleted. You can, however, hide it or any other folder that you don't want to show up in your Favorites menu. In the Internet Explorer window, click Favorites, then right-click on the folder you want to hide and select Properties. Place a checkmark in the Hidden attributes box and it will not longer show up on your Favorites menu.
Alexa and What's Related
Alexa is the service behind the "What's Related" links you often find on the Web. You can add Alexa to your IE5 toolbar by right-clicking on your browser's Toolbar, then choosing Customize. Select related from the Available Toolbar Buttons box, then click Add. Now, at any site, click Related and a left-pane will open up in your Browser listing related links.
Creating a Webpage of your Favorites
If you use two computers or two different browsers, with Windows 98 you can export your Favorites to either another browser or to a HTML file. Open Internet Explorer and click File on the Menu Bar, then choose Import and Export. The import/export wizard will take you through the process. Now you can put the html document onto a floppy and have a document on any computer with links to all of your favorites sites.
Fast Web Address
If you right-click on a blank portion of your taskbar, then choose Toolbars, then select Address, it will place an Address Bar on your taskbar allowing you to type in any URL without launching Internet Explorer first. When you type in the address, then hit Enter, it will automatically open your browser to that page.
Search the Web by Keywords
If you type "go x" in Internet Explorer's address box ("x" being a keyword), e.g., go wavs, it will take you directly to MSN Autosearch and search for that item.
